Re: Lost

If your surgery is scheduled soon, your surgery may need to be rescheduled until you have completed your antibiotics and are well. Going into surgery with an infection puts you at more risk than normal and could allow for complications and a complicated recovery.

Your doctor may also suspect there are other bladder concerns and may be checking to see if the surgeon can check for those during surgery. For instance, when I had blood in my urine and the urinalysis was actually negative for infection, a cystoscopy to look inside my bladder was done when I was in OR for a surgery.

Re: Lost

Because your surgery probably needs postponed.

It is unsafe to have surgery when you have a current infection and you are being treated for a urinary tract infection.

It will be up to the surgeon to determine if it is safe to proceed or not.

Your doctor is simply looking out for you.

Re: Lost--UTI and surgery on Wednesday

Even though your urine is clear that does not mean the infection has cleared completely from your body.

Additionally, using an antibiotic leaves your immune system compromised which can be risky for a surgery.

Likely you will not be able to touch base with any of your doctors until Tuesday. So, try to enjoy your weekend and relax.

Tuesday morning, give your surgeon's office a call and see what you can find out. It will be up to the surgeon as to whether or not the surgery can go forward or not.

Re: Lost--UTI and surgery on Wednesday

Not a problem at all! Ask any questions you have!

The surgeon can decide to go ahead with surgery and treat with extra antibiotics but only he will be able to decide if going ahead or postponing is best for you.

I wish for your sake this wasn't a holiday weekend so you could get your answer sooner!
