Re: Recovery pain

I had a TAH/BSO exactly a week ago and had 5 days in hospital (counting the op. day). Had an epidural before the anesthetic and my first night was pain free as a result. Then I had a PDA for a couple of days, then oral meds - oxy something & tramadol for a day, and since then have got by alternating paracetemol and ibuprofen. I wanted to get off the potent stuff if I could because it is constipating, and indeed I had two nasty days of that. I am fine now in that department and my pain is quite tolerable. Won't pretend I'm pain-free but can sleep soundly for about 7 hours at least at night before needing some pain relief. I walk a little and rest frequently. (I used to be a big walker, but am not up to it yet)
Sneezing and coughing is painful, I must say.
And I can't get over a general nausea. Had anti-nausea meds in hospital (but just the post-op. day vomiting - I don't recommend that at all!!!). I'm eating normally but nothing appeals at all.... yet.
Spoke too soon - I lost my lunch, but probably because I lay down straight after lunch. It's all gradual, and TBH, I'm better than I hoped at this early stage. Living alone, too, and coping!
