magnesium citrate

just took my magnesium citrate at 2 p.m. it is now 4 and nothing but some pretty bad stomach cramps and a bit of nausea. Is this normal?? I was on a soft diet yesterday and clear liquid diet today so wondering if it is just going to take longer and work harder to find anything to expel....help! feeling kind of miserable!

Re: magnesium citrate

I experienced the same thing. It took about 4 hours for it to kick in. The stomach cramps were the worst. Good luck

Re: magnesium citrate

My DR ordered the soap sud enima instead which I am NOT looking forward to later tonight. I believe I dread this worse than surgery itself.

Good luck tomorrow, may we all feel better soon!

Re: magnesium citrate

It will clean you out! Mine started out slow, not as slow as yours but once it gets going, you'll be clean as a whistle by tomorrow!

Re: magnesium citrate

be sure and put some ointment on your butt before you start having diarhea, i didn't and was very sore by the time i had surgery, i had to drink the magnesium citrate and take two enemas, what a wonderful night before surgery!

Re: magnesium citrate

Yes to ointment! Get some kind of barrier there, the nurses can tell you the best stuff to use, even diaper ras ointment with zinc if thats all you can find! That magnesium citrate burns on the way out. It took 6 hours for mine to work....hated that stuff.
Good luck sweetie!

Re: magnesium citrate

I imagine you're already on the other side of this, but for others doing it later...mine took over 3 hours to do anything, but then worked really quickly. Then a couple more hours, another round, and some bonus vomiting that time. I'm on round four, I think: genuinely not super awful, though not fun.

The Target brand lemon flavor does not taste horrifying. I'd recommend it, though probably not for anyone's well-deserved post surgery toast.

Re: magnesium citrate

I have no problems with doing a warm water enema so I won't use that stuff. Can't anyway because of reflux problems. Enemas sound awful but they are easy to do. My system is slow so drinking that stuff (tried in the past) would cause me more agony and not work for like two days anyway.
