Pre-op over, had me in tears.

So I called the nurse a couple weeks ago to ask what kind of procedure I was having done and what they were removing. She said LSH, keeping my cervix and ovaries. She said they were removing my uterus through the "holes" from where they put the trocars. So I spend 2 weeks doing research on that procedure, thankful I would be keeping my cervix as I see it has its advantages. I get to pre-op and asked if he would cauterize some of my cervix to prevent bleeding. He said he was taking out the cervix and uterus through my vagina so there wouldn't be any bleeding anymore. I lost it. I said that I had been told that I could keep my cervix etc. He said they don't have a morcillator so that is why they don't normally do it that way. I asked if he could cut it in strips and take it out that way and he said it's possible to use a "baggie" and pull them up that way. I said I would prefer he tried because I took off 2 weeks of work under the impression that I wasn't having any internal stitching and would really like a shorter recovery period. He agreed to try but I really think that his nurse and him should get on the same page!!

No kidding, I think I would cry, too! I'm sorry their miscommunication caused you so much trouble. I hope things work out the way you'd like them to . . . you'll be in my thoughts!

Re: Pre-op over, had me in tears.

If you want to keep your cervix you need to insist that it stays! Your Dr. will need to figure out a way to leave it, that's why he gets paid the big bucks. Don't just go with what he wants to do, it's your body and you need to live in it for the rest of your days. Please be your own advocate in this and make him understand how important it is to you. I would have been upset too. Sometimes I think these Dr's forget they are dealing with humans and that their actions can have life long consequences.

I wouldn't do anything until you know that you, the doctor, and everyone else involved know what is to happen. It's not like you can change your mind after!! Good luck and just remember they can only do what you signed on your consent.

Thanks ladies, I made sure he changed it on the consent form saying he was leaving the cervix before I signed anything. I am pretty stubborn and I feel like " if it ain't broke, don't fix it !"

How can you have a hysterectomy and no internal stitching? Cervix or not we all have bunches of internal stitching no matter what type of hysterectomy we have.

Just curious

Things must have changed in the last 3 years, because I asked my Doctor this morning before they released me and I have no internal stitching. The only evidence is a slight swelled belly and 3 tiny tape covered holes.
I am 47 and am very happy I got to keep my cervix and ovaries.

I am glad you did that. I actually switched GYN's for that very reason.

I will be sending healing thoughts your way!

I didn't even think to ask mine if I'll have internal stitches . . . he didn't mention it and he was so very thorough about everything else. Fingers crossed!
