TVH scheduled...bladder questions

Well I just scheduled my surgery for 9/21 TVH. I was hoping to go in on 9/14 but the doctor was not able to do it then. I had an ultrasound on 8/19 due to cramping and discomfort. On 8/24 my PCP called and referred me to a GYN for fibroids. On 8/26 a nurse at my PCP office called me and said I had a UTI and wasn't I in pain? I sais YES! I am in pain, figured it was the fibroids, she assured me "oh no, it's the UTI". Well guess what? I finished my antibiotics, all 10 days and it is pain from the fibroids!!! I look 6 months pregnant right now and the pain is just getting worse. I feel like I am in labor. Thankfully, I had already scheduled a week off of work and am able to relax right now but will have to return to work for six days before my surgery.

I have had frequent bladder infections and wonder if they can be linked to the fibroids/enlarged uterus. ? I know I am very uncomfortable if my bladder is full. And it is painful to pass gas. Are these just unrelated or have any of you had issues with these before your surgery?

Also, since I am having a TVH, it makes me wonder....does it effect how "tight" you are? I was surprised when my doctor said it would be a TVH and not a LAVH. Isn't that more equipment they have to stick up there? YIKES!!!

Re: TVH scheduled...bladder questions

I'm sorry, I don't know the answer to your bladder question. I had a prolapsed uterus not fibroids.

As for the TVH, I had mine done 6 weeks ago tomorrow. I feel great, and all the pain I had before surgery is gone.

I actually watched a TVH on youtube, it's pretty amazing how they do it. I don't suggest watching it because it is scary but the vagina is very stretchy, there really isn't too much they stick in there, they just hold it open with surgical tools.

Good Luck and best wishes. If you want to read my TVH story here is the link.

I actually did watch a video of it already! It just looks like it will be very, VERY sore down there from all the tools.

Re: TVH scheduled...bladder questions

Hi Vanne

I had a TVH on April 29th and am feeling great. I had fibroids and a prolapse. I had alot of pressure and some pretty sever cramping before I had my hysterectomy. Good luck.... and, no, it doesn't effect how tight you are. : )
