Re: Small Ridiculous Moments

I need to refrain from drinking water when reading these posts!
No funny moments yet, but I did realize I'm having my surgery on International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Yes, I do plan on having an "X" marks the spot on my belly and I purchased a uterus-shaped pillow which will sport an eye patch, a "battle scar" and a handmade purple heart.

Re: Small Ridiculous Moments

Isn't it strange how the two main descriptive options for these things are sports equipment and fruit? I wonder how the doctors choose which simile to use: do they use the sporty ones with the sporty-looking patients? The fruit ones for appointments right before the lunch hour? Inquiring minds want to know.

Re: Small Ridiculous Moments

Now that's quite funny. But also scarey at the same time. Don't these people pay attention to what they're reading?

I was on the phone with the medical secretaries, trying to get ducks in a row for my FMLA (the thing that lets you take time off work and still have a job to come back to.) Very clearly communicating to the secretary: upcoming surgery for fibroid removal, got bumped forward a couple weeks, please check my records for the doctor's note, etc.

She very competently looked up my file, read all about it, gave me all the information I needed to make sure I could pursue disability if I ran out of sick leave before I recovered...

...and then kindly alerted me to a wonderful state-funded program that offers extra Baby Bonding time to folks in my situation.

My exact words: "Um, it's a tumor. Not an infant. Don't think we're gonna cuddle after the surgeon gets it out."

I'd love to hear if anyone else has had one of those gotta-laugh-or-you'll-cry-your-eyes-out kind of moments on the yellow brick road to getting this stuff dealt with.

Re: Small Ridiculous Moments

I had to deal with a receptionist that wanted my due date... I replied “whenever the doc decides to pull it out” and she just gave me a blank look. Why must they assume?!?

Re: Small Ridiculous Moments

Yesterday I picked up my magnesium citrate and then went to pick up up my 14-yo DD. She sees the bottle on the floor of the car, picks it up and says "Whoa, Mom, medical grade vodka? Cool!" So my bowel prep is now a cocktail!

Re: Small Ridiculous Moments

I just made my postpartum.... Oops, my post op appointment! I'm starting to wonder what they took out of me??

Congradulations! It's a uterus!
Now it's just me and ol' lefty (my loving term of endearment for the ovary that stuck around)
