Stairs after I am home?

I am scheduled for pre-opp on Tues and surgery Wed. My daughter and mother are planning to stay in the hospital with me and I'm happy about it. Think friends need to stay away. Does anyone think it's possible to take get upstairs after getting home? My only shower is up there. Sounds like it may be tough...

Re: Stairs after I am home?

I find it surprising how much the doctors vary on this question. No matter which type of surgery you are having, some doctors will place you on a stairs restriction while others will allow stairs.

I had a TAH and my doctor did not give me any stairs restrictions at all--simply told me to take them slowly. I made sure I only went up them once a day just to be sure I was not damaging myself in any way. I did not have any problems at all--did not feel pain, tugging, or pulling. My husband insisted on being with me just in case I had problems (very thoughtful and loving, but I felt he worried too much).

Good luck to you!

Re: Stairs after I am home?

My surgeon gave me no physical restrictions at all...except for sexual intercourse. He said if I felt okay then go ahead and do it. Stairs weren't mucb of a problem for me at all. I was doing them the day I came home...which was the same day I had my surgery.

Re: Stairs after I am home?

I had a TAH and my main concern was coming home & the 2 flights of stairs to my condo. Dr said: take them slow. I did and had no issues.

Re: Stairs after I am home?

My doctor said it was fine to up and down stairs just go very slowly. I hated the stairs for almost 3 weeks because it hurt going up and down, I am 5 weeks post op and have no pain what so ever using the stairs, I cannot go up super fast though as it will start to hurt.

Re: Stairs after I am home?

I have a stairs restriction on my pre-op papers, but that's not a problem for me, it's all one level here.
