16 hrs & waiting
I am 16 hrs out frm having a vaginal Hysterectomy taking the cervix and more than likely the overies due to family history of cancer. Also having an anterial & posterial repair with grafts, suburetral sling and graft and rigid cystoscopy. Sound like a lot. I know what it all means and mostly it is a lot of recovery time. I have never had any surgery before and the birth of my daughter 24 yrs ago was a breeze. I just hope the same goes for this. I am very nervous about the anastegia. I have heard and read so many things that do not sound good where that is concerned. I do have to say that this site has been very helpful and releaving. Thank you HysterSisters for the support and advise.

Re: 16 hrs & waiting
Hi lagnafcb. My Hyst is also scheduled for tomorrow, so I know exactly how you feel right now. I am also worried about the anesthesia, even though I had surgery for appendicitis when I was 24 (I am 40) and everything was OK. But this site has been a great help, now I know feeling like this is completely normal, so I try not to worry about it. I also try to think positive - at last I will be free of these horrible periods and will get my life back.
I'm sure everything will be OK for all of us, and I will pray for you. Good luck!

Re: 16 hrs & waiting
I will be praying for you all. My surgery is also tomorrow. And I am in countdown mode. I am anxious, excited, and scared to death.
I hope to hear that all of you are doing well after your surgeries. I hope to meet you in the post-op forum with good recovery stories.
Thank you all.

Re: 16 hrs & waiting
just wondering, did anyone have their ovary mass tested for cancer before surgery, just seems lile they would do that first so they would know before they go in to remove anything

Re: 16 hrs & waiting
Hi katytraveler.
First of all, I hope your surgery went well and you are having a great recovery
Answering your question, in my case no test was performed before my surgery, as there is no family history of ovarian cancer and there were no signs of it anyway. My problem were half a dozen fibroids, a couple of them the size of a grapefruit. I am glad they are gone now!

Re: 16 hrs & waiting
You all are going to do great! I'm 6 days post-op and I feel great! Yes, there is plenty of recovery time, but it's all good. I think the waiting and the few days before were harder than the recovery stuff so far. Hang in there! You're almost there and it will all be good.

Re: 16 hrs & waiting
Hi katytraveler.
I'm sorry to hear that. But staying positive is really good. A few months ago a colleague of mine told me his wife had ovarian cancer, so she had her uterus, tubes and ovaries removed and then she had chemo. It was hard for all the family, but everything went OK and now her cancer is gone! I'm sure you will do great too. Good luck and a BIG hug!
