Pre-Op Emotions

I'm scheduled for TVH on Sept. 19th. I'm so thankful to have found this website. I have so many mixed emotions about the surgery. I don't know how I'll feel about myself afterward...will I be like the women who still feel feminine or will I feel like my "womanhood" is gone? I've had knee surgeries and they never bothered me, but this one...I'm so sad about it.

Re: Pre-Op Emotions

Uhura - I'm right there with you. I'm scheduled for BSO/LSH on September 18th. My brain is going a million miles an hour about this surgery. Who will I be? How will I be? Will I regret my decision?

I've had a partial mastectomy for breast cancer, 7 weeks of daily radiation, and 3.5 years of oral chemo and I KNOW that removing my ovaries will go a long way in preventing recurrence. I KNOW that removing my uterus will remove one more place that my cancer can take hold. BUT, I'm scared, emotional and wondering what will be.

I'm sorry you are sad. It is ok to be sad. (((Hugs)))

Re: Pre-Op Emotions

Madison27, my mother had a mastectomy a few years ago, and I had a couple of lumps removed two years ago...luckily they were benign. My head is telling me that this is the right thing to do, but of course, our hearts are telling us something else. I am in a relationship with a man that lost his 1 year old son in a fire 20 years ago. He told me that he had never wanted another child until we met. We were getting ready to see a fertility specialist about the time I found out about the hysterectomy. More than anything I wanted to give him a child. He's been very supportive and that means so much.

I look forward to reading about how your recovery goes. You'll be in my thoughts. Many hugs back to you!

Re: Pre-Op Emotions

I read about your boyfriend's tragic loss in a previous post. I'm so sorry that you now are dealing with new health issues on top of everything. Sometimes timing seems so cruel, but I try to think that there is a reason why we go through things when we do. We just aren't always aware of why.
