Good idea about the stool softeners. I didn't realise the belly binder had ice packs in it! Wow! I'll have to check that out.

I thought with the Da Vinci they didn't have to cut the vagina??? Or is it mainly to "pass" the uterus and ovaries etc. out???
They were just going to do the divinci robot, but the fibroids were so big they had to also bring everything out through the vagina...the robot helped the whole process. The doctor said it was like he delivered a baby.

Re: What before surgery tips can you offer?

LAVH was 8/16/11.
Loved the tips above. I purchased extra pillows bc friends and family said pillows would be helpful. I got two and are still using them 5 weeks post. To support belly, put between my legs, it was added comfort.
Definitely recommend a abdominal binder (you can get them at a local health store for around $30, wish someone had told me about it pre op) It just supported the belly much like a brace would support an arm or leg. Know that you are going to be tired. Do expect someone to be w/ you and not alone for the first few days at least, especially for showers. Love the shower chair idea.
Its best to keep pain meds in system on a regular schedule for the first few days because if you want to take it until you feel it, it takes longer to ease the pain.
Pay very close attention to your body and do not be afraid to ask questions or call your doctor. You may want to ask your doctor for nausea and antidiareah meds (my primary doctor suggested and gave me scripts prior).
Heating pad and ice packs to ease abdominal pain. Expect no bending and if you read the post op at each stage that are posted on here, it will be very helpful.
Don't expect to want to fix meals or even a simple sandwich, remember there is only one time to heal right. Blessings

I've had both the 5" and the laproscopic procedure for endometriums on my ovarys. The lap is by far much better. Healing time is much quicker and less pain immediately after surgery. I didn't even need a major pain killer, just a heating pad.
