Had my preop appt. today

And the most interesting thing that happened was the hospital decided to hold a fire drill in the middle of the day, so my appointment that was supposed to be at 10:45 didn't happen until almost 12:30.

Anyway, I'm getting to keep my ovaries (YAY!) but not my cervix because of the abnormal PAP I've already had. The doctor also said that provided I'm off the pain medications by then, I can drive my son to his grammar class after 2 weeks (he only goes once a week).

It was funny, though, when I called my husband to let him know that they'd only have to keep me for 1 day and he said, "We'll see about that." Either he's freaked about me having an organ removed and coming home the next day or he's got plans the next day he hasn't told me about. J/K. I would say he's freaked. The last time he dealt with this, it was in the 1960s when he was working in the postop ward at one of the army hospitals. Back then, they did a TVH and kept them in the hospital for a week. I didn't tell my husband that the insurance companies would have docs doing transplants and quadruple bypasses on an outpatient basis if they could get away with it.

So now I'm wondering if it's even going to be worth taking my normally ever present electronics (laptop, Kindle, 3DS, Droid X2, etc.) with me. I mean, given my reaction to the anesthesia from my D&C, I'm going to end up sleeping the rest of the day after surgery (scheduled for the same time of morning as my D&C was scheduled for). If I sleep the way I did last time, I'm not going to wake up until about time to go home the next day and thus won't need much entertainment. It might be an interesting social experiment though....can a woman who pays more attention to her electronics than her husband go 24 hours without the electronics but with the husband? Um, nope. Doubt it!

Well, this will be an interesting experience, that's for sure, especially considering I've never had major surgery before. Most pain I handle well--I've broken bones and laughed when offered pain meds for when they were set--but I'm a wimp when it comes to my "hoo ha." I'm that woman who acts like a yeast infection is justification for the world stopping and then being sedated for a week.

Well I'm babbling now, a sure sign I need to decompress and deal with the anxiety in a different manner.

Re: Had my preop appt. today

I'm trying very hard to convince myself that I really don't need to take my computer with me. They really do need it at home for doing grades and lesson plans and such, but I'm not having much luck. The very same voice that tells me I should leave my computer at home also tells me that even if I don't, I can leave the flash drive at home with the programs they need for attendance, lesson plans, grades, etc. But my Kindle, 3DS, and iPod are going with me, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. I NEEEEEEEEEEEED those. No seriously, I do need the iPod. I'll never make it through everything before they put me under without the iPod. It's got my "relaxin' music" on it.

At any rate, I'm glad I'm not the only technophile here. (I think I got the word right. I meant the one that means addicted to ones electronics). Good luck with your preop and with your surgery. I hope everything goes well for you.

Re: Had my preop appt. today

I completely understand! My husband is a "techie" and we are a technophile household! LOL....My laptop may be a little too much to bring, but the iPad, the Droid X, the EVO and iPod are ALL accompanying me to the hospital! HEY A GIRL'S GOTTA DO WHAT A GIRL'S GOTTA DO!

I hope all goes well with you also!
