50+ and depressed

I'm 52 and depressed so much that I'm making myself think it is sick. I'm worried all the time about my health and I just had the yearly examine done and nothing was found. Menopause is kicking me in the rear big time. Is there anyone out there that is having the same thing. I'm tired, depressed and confused. I had a hysterectomy in 2004. I'm soooo tired of not having a life. Any answers?

Re: 50+ and depressed

I'm sorry you are not doing well. Are you using anything for hormone replacement? If so, you may need an adjustment. If you are not, maybe you need to talk with your doctor about starting ert.

Re: 50+ and depressed

babes

You are where I was after my hysterectomy in 2006. I was depressed confused, and very anxious.
What I learned is....A woman's brain needs estrogen to keep her serotonin levels high enough to ward off depression and anxious feelings. Every woman is different and some women are just affected more than others on a brain level.
For me, I need estrogen replacement to keep my depression from running my life. There is a great book called, Hormones and the Mind, by Edward Klaiber MD. I found it very helpful figuring out why I was having such a hard time with anxiety and depression..it changed my life.

Hope you feel better. Depression sucks the life out of you and you deserve better than that!!
