Confused

Hello, I had my pre op yesterday and and am having a TVH with a&p repair my concern is my ovaries my mom passed away from ovarian cancer and I would like to have them removed but the Dr said that in order to do that he would have to do TAH. Ive read alot of places that they can get the ovaries during a TVH why is my DR telling me he might not be able to... My other option is to go back in about 6 months and have them take them than. Has anyone had the two surgies? I called the DR and asked them about it and am waiting for a call back. Ok.... Just got off the phone with my other Dr and he is going to do a LAVH so I can have my ovaries removed.

Re: Confused

cynbfree,

Each doctor has his/her own skill set and type of surgery they do best. You will be offered what the particular doctor does. Some doctors are more skilled or experienced with TAH so that's what they offer. Others may offer minimally invasive or robot
assisted procedures. If you have a type of surgery you want, you should consider using the doctor who does that surgery. In some cases it can be difficult to reach the ovaries during a TVH. Using laparoscopic tools to assist makes it easier to get to the ovaries.

I had three surgeries in a year and I don't recommend it.

We are all different, doctors have differences too--a second or third opinion is a
good idea. Keep us posted on what you decide to do.

Re: Confused

Ah Thank You. Yes the Dr I spoke with on my preop wasnt the Dr doing my surgery. I spoke with my surgeon today and he said if I was adament I wanted my ovaries removed he would do a LAVH. So I guess thats what Im having done with anterior, posterior repair. Im prettty nervous and alotg of anxiety going on.
