loosing uterus make menopause?

I just read some one elses post and it made me have a stupid question:

I am having uterus taken out...if i leave my ovaries will I still go into menopause?

I thought only if ovaries and uterus were gone. I hope not. Well wait, maybe i will since no periods?
I am confused if I am in menopause then how come if i keep my ovaries I wont have to take hrt?

I am lost. Will i have hot flashes then if I keep my ovaries?

Not a stupid question and one you can hear Drs give different answers too.

Technically since your uterus is removed and menopause 12 months from the point of your last period without a uterus you can't have a period so some call it menopause.

However, in my personal opinion, since you have ovaries you are still ovulating and in fact if you keep your cervix you run the risk of mini-period. In natural menopause it is because ovulation ceases that you go into menopause. So to me surgical menopause is when your ovaries are removed regardless of whether the uterus is removed or not. You can't have a period without ovaries.
