I didn't have the morphine epidural but I have heard it is very successful and people love it! I did have a regional block put in both sides of my tummy (while I was asleep) and it gradually wore off over 72 hours. I was totally pain free for those 72 hours - wonderful stuff!! Best wishes for your pain-free healing.

Re: Morphine epidural?

I had an epidural with my surgery - I don't know if it was morphine or not. But, my doc told me that it allowed me to have less anesthetic and I would wake up quicker. I would do it again in a heart beat!

I had a TAH BSO, and so I was hospitalized for four days. They left the epidural in until the next day but could give me pain meds through the tubing so I did not take anything orally. That was very nice when I was just laying in bed - I had a catheter - trying to get my bearings again after surgery.

Good luck!

Re: Morphine epidural?

I had a morphine injection in my spine right before surgery but it was not an epidural. The pain relief lasted 24 hours but I was able to move unlike an epidural. I had zero pain when I woke up..i highly recommend this option if available to you.

Yes, this is what I had, now I come to think of it - I WAS thinking of it as an epidural but I guess it wasn't actually.

I also had no pain to speak of for 24 hours thanks to this, and probably less anesthetic was needed. I had a TAH/BSO 3 weeks ago.

I also highly recommend this option!!

Re: Morphine epidural?

I myself am having a lavh in two weeks, so if I get the morphine shot I will not need meds for 24 hours? If for any reason I do would I be able to get meds since i had the morphine shot?

Thanks

Re: Morphine epidural?

the nurses kept asking if i needed anything more and i said no. So by all means you can have something additional if needed. I didn't feel drugged up or loopy either. they did give me iv ibuprofen for inflammation so i am sure that helped as well. they gave me a vicoden pill when i left the hospital and i took ibrupofen when i got home. only had some discomfort from the ride home and the vicoden helped cover for when the shot wore off. they will give you a prescription narcotic and/or ibuprofen for home too since you may need it when it wears off. talk to your anesthesiologist about what you want or need. mine called the night before as well as met me in person before surgery. so it is the perfect opportunity to go over what has worked or didn't work for you in the past and what the plan will be if the chosen method doesn't work, or if you need something stronger. they gave me my injection after the sedative so i don't even remember getting it. i had no side effects from it.

Re: Morphine epidural?

Thanks I was wondering about that. Just cuz I have sever pain already and am on narcs off and on now. A low dose though. And i have had morpin before in the er and it had no effect, like it didn't even feel like they gave me meds at all. So with that said I know I will try it if it is offered.

Hi MissStarlett-
I have also been on pain killers for the last year or so for my endo. I just had my surgery and they gave me Ketamine and Morphine as well as some pill before hand that I guess they use to treat patients with fibromialgia (SP?) or rhumetoid arthritis-it starts with a c I think, can't remember name. I would like to warn you though, even though I told them that I wake up w/nausa, they didn't give me any anti-nausa meds or the patch until I was already throwing up. Threw up a good 12-15 times before the meds kicked in, and I am honestly not sure if that amount of throwing up was from the anestisia or the medication mixture. After I got the anti-nausia med and patch though I started to feel much better. I kept down food this am, and was discharged by 10:30 am.
