Head Cold - surgery 2 weeks from today
Okay Ladies! Please help me out here.. my surgery is 2 weeks from today & my darling daughter came home from college this weekend with a cold and despite all efforts (using hand sanitizer,& periodically spraying Lysol throughout the house, wiping off things she came in contact with, etc;... even bought some surgical masks) she left feeling better and now I have the sniffles. I think all the stress from worrying about this surgery has taken its toll on my immune system despite my healthy eating and trying to stay rested. Come hell or high water, I gotta have this surgery. Any suggestions on what I can take? And it doesnt help that today is the day I am supposed to stop taking all supplements and anti-inflammatory meds.. And Aunt Flo decided to show up today.. 2 weeks late..

lilydale,
What a bad time for a cold you poor dear. But post-op coughing would be bad!! lol
Do your best to get rid of it ASAP. Zinc and vit C lozenges really seemed to speed up recovery from my last cold. A neti pot also a big help.

Drink lots of water to try to flush it out of your system! Unfortunately the common cold is a virus, so it has to pretty much just run it's course. Do whatever you need to do to make yourself feel better (zinc, Vit C, vapo-rub, etc.) and try not to worry about it too much. Two weeks is still a long way away!

I was in the same boat and my family doctor told me to take sudafed, mucinex and use a neti pot. I double checked with my surgeon and got the go ahead to use them. It helped keep it from going into my chest and causing issues there.
You have plenty of time for it to get out of your system - just rest and take care of yourself!

Thank you all! This site is such a blessing. I feel that all of you are "friends in my head". Have been taking Dayquil and some Zinc Tablets and drinking lots of water. I think I am more annoyed by the cramps I am having and not being able to take any Motrin.. this Tylenol just aint cuttin it.. its been like taking M & M's for a migraine! I have a lot to do to try to get ready and am beginning to realize that my place wont be as clean as I'd like for it to be but my health is more important.

Re: Head Cold - surgery 2 weeks from today
That same thing happened to me. I didn't mess around, I went to my general doctor and explained I was due to have surgery and wasn't going to be able to change the date on it. My mother was coming up to help me post surgery. He prescribed two z-packs for me. I took them and felt much better.

Re: Head Cold - surgery 2 weeks from today
so sorry hope you feel better! I myself am scheduled for surgery in two weeks. On the third. I am finishing meds for sinus infection, yesterday just started another antibiotic for bacteria vaginosis, wow so much going on now that I scheduled surgery. And today my nose started running and feeling a little feverish but no fever. So I get sick very easy. Hope we both can get better fast. I can't take any cold meds that have alcohol so any advice on that? If I have any alcohol even mouth wash on this antibiotic it will make me very sick.
