Shelly - I would call your surgeon's office and let them know, just in case. Every doctor is different on what they want to know and what they don't.

Echinacea shouldn't be taken before surgery. Check with your doctor before taking any herbs/medications.

Re: 7 days to go, and I'm getting sick...

I just had my TAH on Monday. One week prior, I got a bad head cold. My doc said as long as I do not have a fever and it is not in the chest, they will do surgery and they did. I hope you feel better. I was so frustrated because I had not had a cold in over 2 years before this. Drink lots of water and get sleep.

Re: 7 days to go, and I'm getting sick...

I was suffering cold symptoms up to the day of my surgery. I spoke to the pre-assessment nurse 2 days before and she told me to rest and drink lots of water and to take vitamin C. She said to come in anyway on the morning of the surgery as ultimately it would be the anaesthetist who would make the decision.

He wasn't worried by my symptoms and weirdly when I came round after the anaesthetic my cold had disappeared!

But I do understand what a worrying time it can be, all that preparation and planning and then the possibility of it not going ahead.

Really hope all is well for you all and that your surgeries go ahead

Ms. B - I have to agree - my cold was gone by the time I made it home from the hospital. I kept cough drops handy just in case - the thought of coughing after surgery was scary!!
