Vag Hyst and Bladder Sling

I'm scheduled for a Vaginal Hysterectomy and Bladder sling. In my mind I'm going to be up and cleaning house within a week. Is this realistic? Has anyone else had this combo? What was your experience?

Re: Vag Hyst and Bladder Sling

No usafmxs, cleaning house within a week of any hysterectomy-let alone with repairs-is not realistic. Sorry, but you really need to give yourself time to heal. You only get one chance. I had a VH with bladder sling and other repairs. By six weeks, I felt pretty much back to normal. This was after I came home with a catheter for 10 days, a UTI, and the normal healing. Not saying you would have these complications, but on occasion, they do happen and you need to prepare somewhat for any issues that could come up. My surgeon gave me info that stated it takes 12 weeks to heal to 80%, and you need that time to let your body heal. It is that healing that helps the bladder sling to stay in place. So if your are going through this surgery to have your bladder repaired, you need to know how important it is to let yourself heal.

Also, go to the pre-op checkpoints as there is so much info there that will help you through your wait. It is the hardest part of the entire hysterectomy. Best wishes to you.

Re: Vag Hyst and Bladder Sling

I had the DaVinci vaginal hyster and bladder sling. At 1 week I was doing LIGHT house work. At about 3 weeks I was able to do more. I was off all restrictions by 6 weeks. I'm now 6 months post op and feeling GREAT.

My best advice is to listen to your body. Don't overdue it. Nap when you need to ... That was the hardest part for me was the exhaustation.

Best of luck to you!
