Confused with why keep cervix over not keeping

I'm having a LAVH and several other repairs my doc told me uterus and cervix were coming out, what's the benefits of keeping or not. I don't know why the cervix is going, my pre op isn't until nov 17th. But I want to be informed so I can go to appointment knowledgable,I want the choice to keep if I can. Could it be because of a bladder prolaspe?

Re: Confused with why keep cervix over not keeping

They make a 'cuff' out of the top of the vagina. Yes, you will have it stitched up. Apparently it does not make it shorter. It just becomes a dead end.

Re: Confused with why keep cervix over not keeping

The length changes when you get aroused from sex. The tissue is elastic. No worries

Re: Confused with why keep cervix over not keeping

I will not keep my cervix, since I have not had an abnormal pap, and my dr. told me that if I kept it I would have more of a percentage of getting cervical cancer. Cervix can still bleed, and I don't want that. Why would you need your cervix, if it is the opening to your uterus and that is gone?
??? Lots of things to think about!
