What do you wear? What do you wear?

Re: What do you wear?

I was in the hospital 4 nights - the first night I stayed in the gown. The next day they allowed me to take a shower and afterwards I was allowed to put on clothes or a gown. I opted for my own clothes b/c it just made me feel a bit better. I took old underwear (as I had bleeding from my incision site that did get on my panties so I'm glad I did) and some loose pj pants. I brought a sports bra and t-shirt. I also brought flops with me, as I can't stand socks. The hospital I was at did provide me with the gripper socks but I used my flops instead. I preferred my pj pants and tees the entire time there but it was more a comfort thing for me. And since I've been home I've been living in draw-string pants and tanks. I'm looking forward to being able to put on regular pants again Good luck to you!

One thing I wonder is after the surgery what do you end up wearing that night?
hospital gown

my surgery is going to be in the afternoon

do you stay in the surgery gown or get changed?
Mine was at around 1:30 pm. I had to be there at 8:30 am. I was put in a pre-op room, had IV of fluids, and was told to put on the hospital gown. I kept my yoga pants on until right before they took me to surgery. The hospital gown tied "lapped" over in the back so I wasn't "flashing" everyone.

if you are too out of it and unable to get up, what happens?
I wasn't too out of it but the first time I did get up, the nurse told me to call her first so she could be there. They had me on morphine all evening, then demerol that night and percocet the following day until I was discharged. They will monitor you for pain and will keep you as comfortable as needed. Just push the little button if you feel you can't get up.

do I need a nightie/nightgown or are pyjamas ok?
I brought mine but NEVER used them. Like I said earlier, the hospital gown was fine and didn't show my butt. I really didn't care if anyone saw it. lol. Heck, I'd just had major surgery.

what about for the rest of the time; i've seen comments on what people wear when they return home, but what about in hospital where you are continually being examined?
I wore nothing but gowns for about 3 weeks. Then graduated up to thin, lounging pants or over sized shorts that the elastic would go above my navel, no panties.

I now can wear my yoga pants and my bikini panties without being too uncomfortable.

:TIP: Use a panty liner or a pad in your panties, across the elastic. Just peel and stick across the elastic. That's what I'm doing now and will be continuing doing that when I do back to work.

As for continually being examined.............they came in to just check my vitals, pain level, (took the cath out) checked my temperature, and if I needed anything to drink, about every 2-3 hours, which was great honestly, because I was so afraid I'd have a fever from an infection or paranoid I'd have a heart attack.

The nurse would ask "on a scale from 1 to 10, what is your pain level. It was difficult at first to even comprehend 1 to 10, lol. that morphine had me loopy headed. hehehe
