What supplies do I need at home?

I'm trying to prepare for this but I'm not sure what I will need at home. Any suggestions would be great. I was told I'm getting a rectocele so I know I will need a donut, I'm having a LAVH. Thanks to all

Re: What supplies do I need at home?

I am not sure about the rectocele but for the LAVH one of the most important things for me was help so I could rest. you will need lose clothes like a nightgown or pajama pants with elastic waist, I needed Gingerale meds made me sick. Some Sisters put a basket next to bed for remote, cell phone, snacks, something to read. Lots of water to drink and healthy food. Pads for spottong. Stool softeners and Gasx help to. Good Luck with everything you will find a lot of answers here the ladies are great!

Re: What supplies do I need at home?

Everyone has their list, but things I found useful was food in the freezer that could easily be popped in the microwave. You will also need a pillow for your tummy - coughing and sneezing hurts right after surgery. You may want to get a grabber so you can pick things off the floor without bending over. A table set up with a remote, books, movies, and other entertainment is also helpful. You may or may not want to sleep in your bed, so if not, a place to sleep - like a recliner. Here is what other women suggested.

Good luck.

couldn't have said anything better....I had my cellphone, laptop, ipad (for books) and a few snacks in my bed with my pillow pet...water and juice on the night stand...frozen from the night before...pads in the bathroom in a basket...and meds bedside.....I wore t-shirts and lounging pants/pajama pants and still doing so now (with tank tops and tshirts)

Re: What supplies do I need at home?

The most important things for me:

~ comfy cotton underwear a couple sizes larger than normal
~ loose, comfortable clothes that don't bind around the waist or across the belly (no elastic waistbands unless they're loose)
~ a grabber tool
~ a box or basket with all the things I wanted to keep handy (remotes, cell phone, tissues, hand lotion, lip balm, etc.)
~ small pillow to hold on my lap
~ books, movies, crossword puzzle book to keep me entertained

My lifesavers were:
Heating pad
Body pillow so I could lay on my side
Moist wipes for the bathroom
Stool softeners and Gas X

Re: What supplies do I need at home?

I also kept lip balm on my nite stand. My lips stayed dry when I was in the hospital and while recovering. Pillow for the belly also is needed in car. You will not want the seat belt near your incision. Make sure you have small containers of juice, tea, etc for drinks if you are going to have to pour them. I made the mistake of trying to pick up my Brita picture that was full. I realized very quickly that was not something that I would be doing again. I am now 71/2 months post op. Good Luck with your surgery. I am so happy that I had this surgery. It is a life changing surgery.
