Suggestions and Questions
I am scheduled October 5 to a have a full hysterectomy. Had 1 ovary removed and an ablation which seemed to work but failed in April.
My questions is so many woman say it is the best thing they have ever done and they feel so much better, what reasons would cause this not to be true?
Any suggestions on the pre and post op is welcome
Thanks in advance

Re: Suggestions and Questions
Having my TVH has given me a better quality of life since I no longer have the pain and continuous bleeding I had before. For some women, however, a hysterectomy doesn't take care of the problems they have. For example, a hysterectomy is not a cure of endometriosis. Also, as with any surgery, there can be complications that may impact the success of the surgery and recovery. Some complications are merely set backs while others can be long term. Why are you having a hysterectomy?
I encourage you to read Hysterectomy Checkpoints, Pre-Op Articles and Post-Op Articles Articles. You'll find a wealth of helpful information!
The important thing to do is your research!

Re: Suggestions and Questions
Agreed! I had an LSH two weeks ago due mainly to fibroids. In May of this year I had a bunch of endometriosis removed, which at that time we were hoping endo was the cause of my symptoms and not the fibroids. That turned out not to be the case, so here I am.
The main reasons I've heard (IRL) as to why women might not agree that this was the best thing they've done is if they have post-op complications or a difficult recovery. These things are not common, but they do happen. Your surgeon should go over the risks with you in detail before you consent to having the surgery.
Best wishes!!

Re: Suggestions and Questions
Thanks so much for your responses.
The answer for your question Deb...Sorry about spelling and if its long but alot has happened.
I have fought and my gyno has stood beside me to keep my parts for a long time.
The reasons I am having it is I going to be 49, premenapausal and for over 15 years I have had horrible heavy periods. Throughout those years I have numerous laproscopic surgeries for cysts on my ovaries endometriosis etc.
The last few years my period was coming every 10 to 13 days. I went in last December to discuss and they found a tumor inside my right ovary doing a vaginal ultrasound. I asked if we could give it some time and we did and in March my gyno said its not going away, the ovary has to come out, not worth taking a chance and we can also try an ablation to see if that helps the periods.
It seem like it did, no bleeding, until mid May when I had constant pain in my back and abdomine. Since it would radiate up my left back she sent me to a urologist to check for kidney stones. He sent me for a catscan and there where none but there was fluid and blood in my abdominal area, this was upsetting because he let me leave doing nothing but saying its Friday 5:30 and if I had you gyno cell I would call her right now. Well monday memorial day nite, I began going into shock.
Went back to gyno she said I had infection and a cyst rupture blood and fluid throught my abdomin cavity and my uterus was inlarged from trapped blood if the meds dont work in 5 days we will have to schedule hystorectomy. Basically I felt better but bloating and intermitant pain never went away and the months passed then I started to spot.
The next new thing that started, pain increasing, I began to bleed, and when I would have sex I would have pain and bleeding.
I went back in she said my uterus is not behaving, felt there could be a secondary issue and wanted me to get another catscan with contrast, which showed my uterus is full of fybroids, Blood is trapped between my ablation and uterus, and my uterus is attached to my left ovary my colon and my pelvic wall. She did not like the fibrous strands and said adhesions really cant be diagnosed unless they do surgery. She said I dont want to go in there and find a for instance diverticuli pus pocket and have to close you up and to so get a colonscopy to make sure thats not the secondary issue.
Had the colonoscopy Monday all was fine few diverticuli nothing bad. I called my gyno on monday and I go today for my pre op and Oct. 5 for the Full Hysterectomy...
I would have to say I am just done with it all and tired of it, I just want it over with and to feel better and many say it has the been the best thing they have ever done and I want to be one them!!!LOL
Hope this explains it....All response are welcome
