Please help w/ your personal experience on ovaries gone, hrt, sex after hrt and hysto

I am 29, having a lavh on monday. I still need to decide to keep ovaries or not. I have had endo for 11 years and bleeding issues. I dont have ovarian cancer in family but breast. Does having breast cancer in family make it hard to take or risky to take hormones.?

I am worried if I loose ovaries my sex drive will diminish. Please let me know about this.

Also, I am deprresiion prone and anxiety, heck, i felt suicidal on lupron. so can hrt make you emotional and or deppressed?
I heard it could, gyn is saying opposite.

If I keep one ovary will I have to take hrt?
Are hrts expensive? I only have low income insurance and will be loosing it soon, so I was also thinking may be wise to keep ovaries If I am unable to get hrt.
Please help
Also gyn is saying if I take ovaries out it will cease my pain. But I have not always had pain on ovaries. Left one yes for a little bit.

Re: Please help w/ your personal experience on ovaries gone, hrt, sex after hrt and h

I am not sure how they deal with HRT with someone who has a history of breast cancer in their family, but I would certainly talk to your Dr. about it before you make any decisions. I had everything removed including both ovaries and am certainly taking HRT. I do not have an decrease in my sex drive because of them. I was not prone to depression prior to surgery but afterwards I was a mess. Emotions all over the place, didn't feel like doing anything, snapping at the tiniest of things. Once I was placed on HRT it seemed to control all of those symptoms but like I said I wasn't prone to them before hand.

It is not uncommon for women who have kept an ovary or both ovaries to have them "stop functioning" for awhile following surgery. I know from reading several posts on here that some have had to go on HRT and remained on it and some have not. I believe it's an individual thing and depends on how your body reacts to the surgery. Most states have an insurance program that you can get right at a pharmacy, it is free and helps with the cost of certain prescriptins. In NYS HRT is one of the meds it helps with. I pay $5.00 a month for mine. You can give the place you would have it filled a call and see if they have such a program in your state. In NY its called the Prescription Assistance Program. Sorry I couldn't answer all your questions but I hope I helped you somewhat. Good luck

Re: Please help w/ your personal experience on ovaries gone, hrt, sex after hrt and h

I had a LSH/BSO on 9/6/11. I decided to take both ovaries after talking to two doctors and doing probably too much research. Having breast cancer in my history too I found that it increases your chance of ovarian cancer. Albeit - just another percentage or two compared to the average woman. I also started HRT (Vivelle .1) right after surgery.

I hope you make a decision that is comfortable for you. When it comes down to it - you are the only one who counts.

As far as libido - I have had a very unhealthy year - and that has definitely been a problem - absolutely no desire. However, I can say I already feel an improvement in that department...

Good luck - and know that this site has been amazing for my worries.
