Well, in my experience, the catheter was absolutely NOTHING to worry about!
(OK I did have major surgery with a TAH/BSO and a 7 inch vertical incision, so I had a lot of stuff attached to me post-surgery)
The catheter went in while I was under. I had to keep it for about 2 days I think (counting op. day), and the next morning as I was having a shower, the nurse just pulled it out gently and it DID NOT hurt - just felt it going out.
From then on I just peed normally. Not very comfortable, cos I had my cervix removed and a vaginal cuff. but I had no problem getting going! For a while I had a little problem emptying my bladder completely, but the answer to that was to stand up over the toilet when I had "finished" and then sit down again and was able to pee further.
Do not anticipate a problem - it is probably not going to bother you at all!!
