Re: cycle started. will surgery be postponed?

They will more than likely perform surgery even if you are menstruating.

Re: cycle started. will surgery be postponed?

I'm gonna go on a limb and say no and they will operate. Several ladies in recovery now had their cycle start prior to surgery and was on in the mist of. Ultimately it will be up to your doctor.

Re: cycle started. will surgery be postponed?

My DR did not postpone...I thought of it as "getting the last laugh" on my stubborn uterus.

Best of luck!

Re: cycle started. will surgery be postponed?

I started my period the day before my hysterectomy (due to severe endometriois). The doctor said it was I blessing I was bleeding, because she could see exactly where the blood was backing up and she was able to "fix' those areas as well. The only problem I had, was to give a urine sample so it was kind of a pain having to wear a tiny tampon while I was bleeding right thru it. But like another poster said just let your doctor know and they will decide what to do. Good Luck with everything!

Re: cycle started. will surgery be postponed?

Every doctor is different, but I would also guess that they will not postpone your surgery. Hoping for all the best!

Re: cycle started. will surgery be postponed?

Thanks ladies. I've pumped myself up for this surgery and I don't want to start over. I just want to get it over with. I'm just sitting here nervous and waiting for Monday.

Re: cycle started. will surgery be postponed?

I was menstruating the day I had my surgery. They just gave me disposable underwear and a pad while I was in preop. From what I've seen as a non-medical person, being on your cycle won't change anything. However, you can always call the on-call advice nurse or doctor for the weekend if you want to be sure.

Re: cycle started. will surgery be postponed?

I started mine the day before surgery, and they gave me the nice disposable undies and a pad too. Still went right on with surgery. i think you will have no problem.
