Surgery booked
Hi
I am brand new and very nervous about pending surgery.
I have opted to have a hysterectomy because for many reasons the Mirena IUD I have inserted is not working out. I have fibroids and an enlarged uterus. I am 46 years old.
I am not worried about not having a uterus, this does not bother me at all, however I am very nervous about having surgery.
Any words of encouragement would be appreciated.

Re: Surgery booked
Good Morning, I know your nervous I am also. My surgery date is 11/7 and some days I feel calm and others I feel nervous. I try to focus on feeling better, especially when if your like me have pain 24 hours a day everyday. When I went to my doctor it was to see about just having my ovaries removed. But once their he looked at all my symptons, test and found it best to do TAH with both ovaries removed. I have had fabroids removed using lapascopic surgery, but now eight years later my problems are worse, with heavy bleeding, pain, nuasea, and many other problems, sadly since my appointment with my GYN/ONC my symptons have become worse. It has been a year since things started going down hill, but I would love to get back to normal. You will be okay, just keep your faith and think good thoughts. It's okay to be nervous, but don't let doubt rule your decision stay strong. No one knows you better than you know yourself. I wish you the very best.

Re: Surgery booked
My doctor had told me that I would be crazy if I weren't nervous about my surgery but it is how you deal with the nervousness that makes a difference. I did not let the nerves take over and kept reminding myself that everyone in the operating room wants things to go right and it is in their best interest to make sure they have have a successful outcome. I found the strength to be completely calm and relaxed prior to surgery and I think it made a huge difference. Just keep reminding yourself that everyone in the OR wants you to be better than ok and if on the off chance that something doesn't go as planned that they are trained to deal with it. It is ok to be nervous, it is not ok to let your fear take over. Stay in control and stay strong. You will do fine and before you know it you will be better than ever. Sending positive energy your way.

Re: Surgery booked
I agree with Cheryl. You have to put your trust in the surgeon and team, and realise that in this situation you have no control. I understand the fear. You do have to be brave. I have read that some of the hyster ladies have had an anti anxiety or pre med prior to surgery to calm them, if you need it. I had my hubby with me to distract me until it was my turn. But the walk into the operating theatre was still a little scary. Be brave, trust, sleep. It will be ok.

Re: Surgery booked
Thanks ladies.
It really feels good to not be alone through all of this. My surgery is quite a ways off, so I will try and put it out of my mind. My partner says it is natural to be nervous too. He will be with me right up to the moment I go in.
Thank you for helping me feel welcome.
