Post Op Recovery Questions

Aloha "sisters"

I am scheduled a wk from today for Bladder Neck Suspension (Burch), BSO, TLH, Utrosacral Ligament Suspension.

How soon post op did you feel like doing the following:

1. resuming the task of cooking meals
2. sitting at a computer
3. taking a 45 min ride each way to town for lite shopping
4. being able to attend some social functions again involving that 45 min ride into town

Well you get the idea was it two wks a month or longer? I know everyone is different and we all have different surgical issues. But just trying to get an idea as to not have my expectations up about what and when I will be able to resume some simple activities.

Re: Post Op Recovery Questions

My surgery was a TAH BSO, and did not involve any bladder issues. But, I can tell you how it was for me.

1. Meals: I did not resume cooking meals on any regular basis for about two weeks post op, and then the meals were VERY SIMPLE - ones that did not require me to stand that long.
2. Computer: I could sit in front of a computer after 5 days post-op. Of course, that was on the HysterSisters.
3. Shopping: I needed help from DH, but did that about two weeks post-op BUT it was only a 5 minute drive. A 45 minute trip was tolerable about 5 weeks post op.
4. Social functions were tolerable about 8 weeks post op - if kept short.

Good luck

Thank you so much for replying. You so are the only one. I normally walk 4 miles a day and am 71. wonder how long for that?
You are probably a bit younger. It might take me longer.

Re: Post Op Recovery Questions

Hi coconut wireless- I'm 3 weeks today post-op of the burch procedure- My Dr. instructed me not to do anything (cooking, sweeping, mopping dusting not to even lift or stretch) for approximately 6 weeks. My husband is doing all the work at home. I was told just to relax. I have a laptop where I can sit on my couch with my feet up to take the pressure off. I did sit at the desk computer but only for 10 minutes. I had an abdominal burch procedure done. As for riding in the car- I was instructed not to drive for 2 weeks after procedure -Listen to your body- I haven't driven the car yet- but managed to be a passenger 2 weeks poat-op - it was uncomfortable but manageable. Hope this helped a bit. Daphne from ottawa canada.
