Keep second guessing all of this
Anyone else in the same boat? I've had four doctors say that this really is the best option. I've had ultrasounds, CT scans, an MRI. Two trips to the ER. I know logically what all is wrong. I know how much the cycle interferes with my life and energy. Most of the time I feel at ease with this; no anxiety scheduling the surgery, and hubby is 100% on board. But then I'll start worrying and wondering. My period should start later this week, so I imagine THEN I'll remember why I'm going through all of this, but at this exact moment, I'm not in an unbearable amount of physical pain. Any other second-guessers out there?

Re: Keep second guessing all of this
Anytime I felt ok I found myself second guessing my decision...then I would get my period and like you said I remembered pretty fast why I was going to have surgery. I think it is very normal to second guess yourself but in the end its the best decision for us. Good luck

Re: Keep second guessing all of this
OH the irony! Period is "technically due" on the 16th. Expecting it on the 9th (cycles keep shortening)..... and guess what's just now come for an extra early visit?

Re: Keep second guessing all of this
Before my lavh my periods came about every 22/23 days. Sometimes I got an extra special treat and would get it twice in one month..hence my reminder...yes I need to have surgery. 9 weeks out and I am happy I did. No more surprises and no more money spent on female products...yahoo.

Re: Keep second guessing all of this
I spent years having terribly painful periods; missing work and family events, time with my kids etc. The prescription pain pills and OTC tylenol were helping less and less. But I always felt pretty good when I wasn't having my period. The anxiety over what I was going to be missing out on and not knowing how bad the pain was going to be when I would get my period started increasing over time too. My DR had been talking about a hysterectomy for years also. I finally decided in June to go ahead with it and had my surgery 9/14. So far so good. I'm still in recovery stage, 3 weeks post and totally NOT regretting decision.

Hi Kbid,
I think second guessing comes with the territory...when planning a hyst. So don't feel alone...when it comes to your feelings. We Hyster Sisters are here to help if we can.
Best wishes
Mary

Re: Keep second guessing all of this
This is fourth day of an especially obnoxious period. Went to bed at 7 last night I was so wiped out. So yeah.... When I'm on my period, I'm NEVER second-guessing, lol...now if I could just remember how miserable I am the other 1/3 of the month. Counting down the days now!

Re: Keep second guessing all of this
I know exactly how you feel, but when I think of the pain and having to change clothes due to heavy flow, I know exactly why I made decision to have the surgery.I am 4 days post op. So good luck to you.

Re: Keep second guessing all of this
So, I'm 9 weeks post op as of today and let me just say:
Best. Decision. EVER.
I can walk without the burning pain, sex is 1,000 times better than it ever was and I lost a lot of swelling in my tummy.
Yes, I had a nasty infection that put me back in the hospital, but this has totally changed my life. I want healthy foods now and can barely drink soda anymore. I've been drinking a ton of water, which before surgery I HATED. My mood is better (even with the hormones freaking out) and I don't snap as quick. I'm gonna say it one more time:
BEST. DECISION. EVERRRRRR!
