Re: My MIL thinks, I'll be recovered in 4 wks
I think, too, I have been trying my best to remain as calm as possible about the whole ordeal. Donating my blood was something that could be in my control so to speak. Once finding out, that I'm unable to. I could feel myself starting to unravel.. because that part is out of my hands.
Today, I'm better. I'm just going to go out and find a body pillow and comfy slippers to have at the castle.

Re: My MIL thinks, I'll be recovered in 4 wks
I had my Da Vinci surgery Total Hyster. and exactly 4 weeks later...I went to the beach...the beach is exactly 4 1/2 hours from my house...it was the worst mistake I ever made....after I arrived...I stayed in bed the entire next day...and barely got to do anything while I was there that week.....I dreaded the drive back...but we stopped every hour...and I took some medicine at one point to help me just sleep the rest of the way home.....I would definitely let the fam take care of the holiday festivities...dont let anyone push you into doing anything you feel will jeopardize your healing. Prayers go out to you as you recover!

Re: My MIL thinks, I'll be recovered in 4 wks
I also travelled only a few weeks after my Hysterectomy, mine was a 7 hour trip to my mom's for some kind of get together. It was horrible and it kicked my pain level back up to a "just out of surgery" feeling. If its only an 1 1/2 away it wouldn't be to bad, my doctor was two hours away and we had to go for all my post ops. What concerns me is that she thinks you will be fine. You should definitely explain that you will need 2-3 months to feel normal again, educate her better so she doesn't think you are flaking out on a family get together. That would be the real issue, getting some family complicated tangle going on. You will NOT be ready to be cooking/etc by then and let her know that if you feel well enough you will try to come but you won't be able to do much more then sit on the couch, so she understands that if you do come its going to be very hard. Give yourself room/permission to heal. Some people are just oblivious to the consequence of a large surgery and even if they had one themselves they block out how bad they felt afterwards!

Re: My MIL thinks, I'll be recovered in 4 wks
I would take it day by day- but if you aren't up to it just stay home! I'm having everyone over for Thanksgiving 2 weeks after my TAH. but I'm doing nothing but heat up some frozen pies! My husbands doing the turkey. All my relatives are bringing the rest of the food. This way I'm home and if I need to rest can go to bed. No way would I drive anywhere!
