I am freaking out- stool questions. (gross, sorry)

Ok I will try to make this as brief as possible,
I am 5 months out of a TAH. Ever since surg I have had issues urinating, I saw my surgeon, a urologist, and can't find anything. A few weeks ago, had sex with DH and went to ER the next day with SEVERE pain in abdomen, had an infection, (white count was very high) and a "sore spot" on my vaginal cuff. Spent 4 days in the hospital trying to figure the source of my pain for the past few months. Talked to a bunch of docs, had x-rays, and two CT scans. Was put on IV antibiotics, then sent home with a 10 day course of another antibiotic. Had follow up with gyn doc that admitted me yesterday, he silver nitrated my cuff but said it was healing nicely. He said the source of my pain was most likely adhesions, and he could go in and knock them out. So now I have to decide what to do, but that's not why I am freaking, I also googled "pencil thin stools" thinking it was a sign that my intestines were getting blocked from adhesions, or was a side effect from the antibiotics. Even though I have been off them for almost a week. Anyway, what kept coming up was colon cancer!
So now I feel like a hypochondriac! And I don't really know if I should bring this up to the doc or what? Wouldn't something have come up in one of the CTs if that were the case? Should I give it more time? My stools have been loose and pencil thin since I went to the hospital. Help!

Re: I am freaking out- stool questions. (gross, sorry)

P.s. I forgot to mention the last blood test they did my white count was still a bit high, but they didn't seem to worry, first count was 23,000 and last was 14,000 so I guess they were happy it went down. I am wishing he drew blood yesterday just to see if it ever went to normal, I was told 10,000 is normal. I could be wrong.

Re: I am freaking out- stool questions. (gross, sorry)

I would definitely tell your doctor about the stools. It could be important with the other issues you're having. And you're concerned about it so he should know. I work as a clerk in a hospital and that certainly does not qualify me to give medical advice - but my sense is if you had a mass or tumor in your intestines it would probably show on your CT scans. Please check with the doc. Wishing you well.

How old are you? Do you have a family history of colon cancer?

Re: I am freaking out- stool questions. (gross, sorry)

Maybe you have granulation healing problems on your vaginal cuff.
This would explain the severe pain after sex.
Several other hystersisters that have had this granulation problem have had silver nitrate to assist in the healing.
I did not. I had to have another surgery!
My sore still isn't fully healed yet. I was on vacation and we tried to have sex and it really hurt. Came back tand the doctor said the gran not fully healed so lay off sex for awhile again. This time he gave me Premarin creme to assist with the healing.

I hope that it works.
I don't know about your thin stools problem. I hope that it goes away.

Re: I am freaking out- stool questions. (gross, sorry)

First I'd probably stop googling because that can literally drive you crazy. That's from personal experience.

Antibiotics can do a whole lot of funky things to the body. Maybe the stool issue is being caused by that? What I would do is definitely ask your doctor what he/she thinks. I know you're worried about being a hypochondriac but the only cure to finding out what is going on with that is to ask. It could easily be something simple. You've gone thru a lot of stuff lately and it is right there on your mind. Nobody would blame you for being concerned about your health.

Good luck and take care!

I would suggest taking copies of your scans, op report and post op clinic notes and going to a major medical center for a second opinion.

Re: I am freaking out- stool questions. (gross, sorry)

As you didn't develop the pencil thin stools until recently, and subsequent to/related to your hysto, I would not be worried about colon cancer. And I'm a hypochondriac too! You note that you've had urination problems since your surgery, and that the severe pain in your abdomen didn't occur until after sex, along with vaginal cuff soreness. I'm not a doctor but my first thought would be adhesions too - Did you google adhesions and pencil thin stools, to see if that can happen with adhesions?

I am sorry you are going through all this and hope that you can feel better asap!!!!

Re: I am freaking out- stool questions. (gross, sorry)

By any chance are you still using stool softeners? I found that when I used them, I had pencil-thin stools and once I went off things got back to normal.
