Liquid Pre Op Diet

Any creative suggestions for trying to stave off the hunger pains with liquid only?

My doc did say I could have my morning coffee with milk. I didn't talk to him directly but his scheduler said she did. I was a bit surprised because I am used to the 'clear liquid diet' that is required for the colonoscopy. Coffee with milk helps to curb my appetite.

Re: Liquid Pre Op Diet

I have found that Jello Jigglers can help a TON! You have to chew them so you can trick yourself a bit and make believe you are actually eating! I alternate Jigglers with Beef Consume and Gatorade. Not a very exciting diet, but it has worked for me. The Mayo Clinic also has this tentative diet plan for the day: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/cle...d-diet/my00742

While you may be allowed to have milk in your coffee first thing the day you have to follow a liquid diet, you shouldn't add any dairy to any other coffee you have later in the day.

Your day and diet won't be the most pleasant one but it will pass!

Re: Liquid Pre Op Diet

My doc does not specify the liquid diet has to be clear. It only says liquid diet. The jello jigglers are not an option as I have to travel to another island for my surgery and will be staying in a hotel room.
Thanks very much for the suggestions.

I found an herbal "fasting tea" that helped me, but I'm not sure the herbs would be safe for you. Might not hurt to ask, anyway.

I would double check on whether or not the diet is suppose to be "clear." Clear doesn't necessarily refer to color but more to the fact that it can't have pulp, dairy, and such.

I traveled a few hours away for my last surgery. I made the jigglers in advance using even less water than normal and took them in a plastic container in an ice chest. I made the Beef Consume in advance and took it in an insulated jug. The Gatorade I had in an ice chest as well.

I ate and drank all day long in a vehicle and then in a hotel where I also did the bowel prep. The first few days of my recovery were in a hotel as well.
