Re: Do I need an Abdominal binder?

I hesitate to tell anyone they NEED a binder. I wanted one and ended up really liking it. It made me feel safe and protected. I didn't use ice or heat much but I bought the perfect pocket binder. I could have survived without one but I felt so much better with one. I wore it 24x7 for probably a month.

Re: Do I need an Abdominal binder?

I didnt use a binder, I used LEGGINGS....the kind made like stockings/pantyhose for support and my trusty Pillow Pet Phineas (I named him sure did....don't judge me! ) But it helped me perfectly! Everyone is different!

Re: Do I need an Abdominal binder?

My doc told me I didn't need one but I got the one from this site anyway. I really like it and it did make a big difference in keeping things from giggling around so much. The cold packs are nice when your tummy swells and gets warm or itches.

Like I posted in another thread, I couldn't comfortably wear mine for about 2 weeks. I had TAH/vertical incision.

Re: Do I need an Abdominal binder?

Dear GuGu22
I had surgery July 29th. Everything was removed as I had stage 1 endo ca.
I was quite fir before the surgery but as the gyn/onc did a bikini incision he cut my ab muscles. I did need the binder for about a week. I am a side sleeper so I found that a pillow under my swelly belly helped better for night time.

Re: Do I need an Abdominal binder?

I had an LSH and the binder was standard post-op issue at my hospital. I found it VERY helpful with gas pains while I was in the hospital, and also for a few weeks afterward -- it helped hold in my swelly belly (which made me feel better, whether or not it actually helped with the swelling I can't say) and also, wearing it at home reminded me to use proper body mechanics and such. I wasn't in a lot of pain at home so having it on reminded me that I was recovering from surgery, if that makes sense. I'm a side sleeper, too. Actually, I'm a tummy sleeper, but either way I am definitely NOT a back sleeper!

So, do you 'need' it, absolutely not. Lots of people don't even bother with them. Everyone is different and I hope you find what works best for you!! Best wishes!!

Re: Do I need an Abdominal binder?

In my opinion, since yours will be a Vaginal Hyst, no you will not need the binder. I had a VH with repairs, and didn't use one, and didn't need one. Six weeks later, I had an ABSO with repairs, and I absolutely needed one after that. Because of the incisions to the abdomin, that is when they are really helpful. Again, everyone is different. I didn't have the swelly belly after the VH, but sure did after the ABSO! The binder was a great comfort. My DR ordered it to be put on after surgery, so I didn't have to buy one.

Maybe some of the other Vaginal Hyst sisters have a different opinion? Best wishes on your upcoming surgery!

Re: Do I need an Abdominal binder?

You may not need a binder, but you do need a favorite small pillow to hold to you belly for the following: belly laughing, coughing, sneezing, car rides (under the seat belt).
I never had a binder, but I don't go anywhere without my pillow.
