Re: All Alone

Some wonderful ideas here, if I could suggest one more?

My DH got me a grabber from the dollar store. That thing was awesome. It's amazing how much stuff you can drop on the floor when you can't bend over.

Best Wishes for an uneventful surgery and speedy recovery.

Re: All Alone

All of these are great suggestions! Might I also suggest...treat yourself to a pedicure before surgery...it's relaxing and it never hurts to have your feet look and feel great!

Another thing...make sure you have plenty of pillows, as they will help to make you more comfortable in bed!

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Re: All Alone

Thank you to ALL who replied. You have NO idea how helpful all your suggestions are! I never thought about the shower and/or driving needs. I live on a huge hill so to suggest I make arrangments for trash pick-up was just too clever. Earlier today, I was just overwhelmed and cried my eyes out ( my tear ducts haven't been called to duty in a long time. I'm the tough cookie of the family) I'm actually starting to feel a bit more confident that I can do this and do it well. Thank you again to each and every one for all your suggestions and best wishes. I can't talk about this with anyone so you guys..errr...I mean...princesses are my only salvation at this time. Best regards to all.

Re: All Alone

i'm doing the same prep right now... home alone with sporactic family & friends visiting, but i refuse to have them stay over or me staying over at their house.

one thing i thought about getting is the shower suction handle thing. i saw it at Harbor Freight for like $7...it's a handle with suction cups to stick to the shower wall or the bath tub side. i think that might be useful.

Re: All Alone

Hi gardener8.
That's another great one! I have a med supply store within walking distance. Guess I'll take a walk over tomorrow and pick one up. I hope evrything goes well for you. If you don't mind my asking.......are you comfortable with being alone ? if so....did it take time to get used to the idea or were you up for the challenge from the starting gate?

Re: All Alone

i've always lived alone (except younger/college days) so it's quite normal for me. i wouldn't know WHAT to do if i have to deal with ppl in the house 24/7 LOL. i already told my BFF to expect me less-socialable than usual when she comes over to visit. :P

just 14 more days til my surgery!

Re: All Alone

Gardener8..... Thank you for sharing. I didn't want to get personal, but I do appreciate your honesty. I have never, ever been alone before. Married at the age of 18, my husband and I have never really been apart for more than a few days here or there over the last 25 years and I was the one who would be traveling for work leaving him alone. So, thank you again. You have been tremendously helpful.

Re: All Alone

Thank you!!!!! I'm ready. Thank you to each every one who sent suggestions. You know, I think I'm going to change the name of this thread. I'm not all alone. I have about 2,000 sisters out there supporting me.
I have my recovery room ready. Moved my clothes around in my drawers so all my elastic band pants are now in a higher drawer so I don't have to bend to get them. Same with PJs. I have the chair picked out ( tested kithchen, dinning room and bar stool for best support) Dinners are ready ( Maybe one or two more dinners couldn't hurt) I shaved the dogs down so I don't have to worry about grooming them for a couple weeks. There is not one piece of dirty laundry in my house exept for the shirt and pants that are on my body right now ( maybe I should wear this outfit until Thursday. LOL ) I listened to each and every sister who made a suggestion and put it to use as it applies to my situation. (3 level house with only one bathroom on the second level. ugh) I am setting up camp in my bedroom. I rearranged my furmiture so I can maneuver easily, keep things organized and since we do not have a TV in our bedroom , I have crosswords, sudokus and novels. Oh, and my lap top of course. I have my drivers for post-op and "just in case"
Again, Thank you all!!! I'm ready. I'm so ready to do this. I'm ready to rock and roll.
