Re: So Nervous

I had a complex ovarian cyst on my left ovary. It was 12 x 9 x 11 cm, and I also did not know I had it. My GP found it during my annual exam. The ultrasound and MRI also found numerous uterine fibroids. (I am 46.)

My gyn onc removed the cyst and performed a TAH BSO - everything is gone. The cyst and fibroids were tested while I was in the OR, and they thankfully came back benign. From what I understand, it is better to have a gyn onc do the surgery so they can take a good look to make sure all is okay. They are best qualified to make that determination, and are skilled at handling large masses.

I know it is scary having something that big growing inside you and you never knew. This comes on pretty rapidly, and it is very hard to digest. I felt like I was being hurtled towards a brick wall in a speeding car when I was in your position. You have found the right web site for understanding. We are here for you to help you through.

Good luck to you.

Re: So Nervous

Sassy - It is normal to be frightened. This is a scary situation. You are having MAJOR SURGERY. You have a growth you never knew you had, and now in a week your uterus, cervix, tubes and ovaries are being removed. All of this is happening against your will. You are supposed to be scared.

I was very upset before my surgery and cried several times. I had about 10 days between when I was told I needed a hysterectomy to when I was in the OR. That is not much time to process the situation, and you are in a similar position. It all happens so fast, you brain just can't process it all.

We are here for you, sweetie. Post often, it really helps.

Re: So Nervous

Hi Sassy i didnt have a cyst but i did have a 20 cm fibroid. I didnt know how bad i was feeling until after the surgery is over and now i am feeling better than i have felt in a very long time. The what ifs about the surgery are way worse than the actuality of it. Keep us posted on your progress. I wish you a speedy recovery.
