Re: I think I am depressed or maybe just scared

My surgery is in two weeks and I am scared too, and the same thoughts occur, but I remember what my mom always said about housework "it'll likely wait for you, so don't worry about it!" She meant to make me laugh, but the point is really, it's not the housework that's important right now, it's making sure you/we rest and get prepared. Plus if you have someone anxious about (my mom made me anxious because I felt like I had to reassure her when I didn't feel too reassured myself), it might be helpful to take a walk together and get away from what you feel responsible for just for awhile. For your healing time, you only need to be responsible to yourself healing. The other stuff can be done by someone else, or just tell it to wait till you're good and ready! Your babies will know you care. You are going to be fine but sometimes you have to care for yourself and be well enough to come back and care for others.

Re: I think I am depressed or maybe just scared

Hey MellyDowns - You are not alone. Many of us felt precisely the same way that you did in the days before surgery. Please know that it is okay to feel this way. This website is the perfect place to express those feelings too, because we all get it.

I remember feeling like there wasn't a single moment that I wasn't thinking about some aspect of surgery, recovery, and all the various "what ifs." So take your time to write out your concerns, make a list of what you might need, re-pack your bag, double check what ever needs rechecking. Come back here and tell us all about it.

Then get a special movie for tonight - NO CHICK FLICKS ALLOWED or a board game that your kiddos love! Settle in with your kiddos and put on your best brave face for them, listen to their concerns if they have any, then come on back to the board and VENT.

Check in often, vent often. Particularly today - you are absolutely entitled!

We get it & are here for you.

Sending a big reassuring hug your direction!

You know what I really appreciated that I never had before was the prescription strength sea-sick patch behind the ear - first it made me a bit drowsy before surgery, which kinda helped calm me down, and then afterwards I didn't get sick at all from all the pain meds, etc. Got it from the anesthesiologist (his nurse suggested it).

Re: I think I am depressed or maybe just scared

Today I actually feel calm. Weird right. It's only early afternoon so I still have the rest of the day. And if course today I feel the cold everyone has gotten, showing up. I'm going to try to drink lots of OJ and try to kill it lol. I don't need a cold on top of recovery ugh!!!
Thank you everyone. It's so nice to know I am not alone in this
