Re: Do I have to take my toe nail polish off????

I'm not sure about the acrylic nails, but I was told in my pre-op instructions that all finger & toenail polish must be removed, and not to wear any makeup either.

Good luck with your surgery.

Re: Do I have to take my toe nail polish off?

I wasn't told anything about nail polish. I painted my toe nails the pretties color that I could find, because I wasn't going to be able to paint them again for a few weeks. Just knowing that my toenails were done made me feel more like myself.

Re: Do I have to take my toe nail polish off?

I called the hospital and they said it would be a good idea to take it off so looks like I'll have ugly toe nails

Re: Do I have to take my toe nail polish off?

I wasn't told not one thing about nail polish or any of that. Trust me they would of said something if you did. I think maybe it varies on type of surgery not sure. And of course every doc is different. If you are really worried about it call up the hospital you are having it at and ask them at the registration desk.
I honestly do not think you need to worry. I think it is with open abdominal surgery. but even then call and ask. Good luck tommarow. For your feeling good cuz your nails are pretty I hope you dont have to. : )

Re: Do I have to take my toe nail polish off?

My paperwork says no polish on "fingernails".

If fingernails are fake, the polish on them needs to be clear.

My pretty-colored toes are STAYIN!

I ended up taking my pretty pink toe nail polish off :-( the nurses said he didn't want any nail polish so looks like my mother will be painting my nails as soon as I am home. I hate not having my nails painted

Re: Do I have to take my toe nail polish off?

I had a pedicure the day before my surgery. The hospital only told me to take my fingernail polish off and my feet were covered as soon as I got there. I looked a mess in the hospital, but at least my feet looked good!!! lol lol

Re: Do I have to take my toe nail polish off?

It seems to really vary by doctor and by hospital. Would it help if I explain why they ask you to remove it?

A common monitoring parameter for anesthesia is "capillary refill time" or CRT. If you press on your fingernail and release the color should return to normal within 2 seconds. This indicates your blood pressure is within normal range. The color of your fingernail is also an indicator of how much oxygen is getting to your extremities.
