There are enough what if and 'cancerhead' moments in all of this that you don't want to be doubting your choice right from the start.

I had surgery scheduled with my gyn and cancelled after finding my gyn-onc. Since I had a definitive cancer diagnosis the gyn-onc wasted no time in getting me scheduled and had my surgery only a week later than my original date.

In this you have to be your own advocate.

Re: Radical Hysterectomy Scheduled

I had a radical hysterectomy on July 15th after removal of a huge cyst turned out to be borderline cancer. The surgeon who removed the cyst and the oncologist he sent me to both strongly recommended a GYN/oncologist and he did the surgery. Everything went well, was back to work in 5 weeks and just had my 3 month follow up. Waiting on blood test results and will need to follow up again in 3 months but so far everything is looking good. I would highly recommend the GYN/oncologist. They are specialists in this field and you don't want to take any chances. Even though I loved the first surgeon and was nervous about going to someone new, I knew it was the right thing to do. Good luck!

Re: Radical Hysterectomy Scheduled

Finally had appointment with oncolgist. Will have biopsy on Monday for cervical cancer. She says its has to be done before hyster because the surgery is done different if cervical cancer? Will also do a ct scan. They are trying to schedule the surgery before Thanksgiving if possible. Otherwise it will be the week after the holiday. I feel better seeing the oncolgist and having them doing the surgery. Will just be glad when its all over....the waiting is the hardest part....not knowing is really hard.

My surgery is the 14-right before Thanksgiving too ! I'm having my husband do the turkey and all my kids and relatives are each bringing/making something. That way we can have it at our house so if I need to rest I can. Good luck! hugs

Sounds like you are getting comfortable with your plan which is great.

Yep, nerves do flare up at this time so try to stay busy and breathe deeply.

Preop on 21st of November. Did the biopsy for cervical cancer..wont have results until day before surgery. But Im ok with that. I will cross whatever bridge I have too when I get there. Surgery is November 29th...Im counting the days! Want this over and I want to get on with my life. Trying to stay busy and I wake up smiling everyday when I get to cross off another day waiting off the calender.

Re: Radical Hysterectomy Scheduled

Biopsy results show no cervical cancer! Doctor did say it would have been eventually so she is still taking it out. So happy I pushed to see the oncolgist. The regular obgyn were telling me the cervix was fine. The oncolgist said from day one the cervix was borderline and she didnt like the looks of it. Surgery is tomorrow........didnt think this day would ever get here!! Guess when I wake up from surgery I will know about the ovary and all the tumors. Will cross that bridge when I get there.

Re: Radical Hysterectomy Scheduled

as you are in the final countdown time.

They may know a little bit about the ovaries and tumors after surgery but final pathology takes a couple of weeks.

Re: Radical Hysterectomy Scheduled

Im doing well since my surgery. So glad its over! The waiting was the hardest part. Im just relaxing and feeling very thankful that I will be fine.
Turns out in my case it wasnt ovarian cancer. Cervical cancer it turned out to be. But doctor says it was caught very early!! She also pointed out to me that it was because I was my own health advocate and I refused to accept what I was being told by obgyn doctors and I kept pushing to see an oncolgist!!
I am a very stubborn person but this is the one time in my life it really paid off.
I wish everyone a speedy recovery and if you are just starting this journey....stand your ground and push for what is best for you!
