work Before surgery day question

My surgery is scheduled for the end of November. I am planning now for my after surgery time off, but I have to decide on day before, too. My surgery is a Wednesday. Should I take the day before, too? I am a teacher, so prep might cause issues at school but preop appt isn't for a few weeks so cannot ask yet. Don't know how much prep I have to do. Should I stay home, busy or what?

Re: work Before surgery day question

If you have to do a bowel prep, you will not want to be at work the day before. I took the 2 days before surgery off since I had to start my bowel prep late afternoon 2 days before. I knew right after scheduling about the bowel prep. You might want to call and ask your doc so you can make a plan.

Re: work Before surgery day question

I have bowel prep... I was told it is hours of potty time. I have it in the morning so I will let you know. I took the day off.

Re: work Before surgery day question

I took the day off before surgery - both for bowel prep, and for the fact that I would not be able to concentrate anyway.

Good luck.

Re: work Before surgery day question

Taking at least the day before surgery is a good idea. I didn't have a bowel prep but I did have a liquid diet to stick to. I am not sure I would have wanted to be in front of a classroom full of kids while only having liquids for energy. Good luck with your surgery.

Re: work Before surgery day question

I would suggest you take the day prior to your surgery off. When I had my surgery I took only the afternoon off and it was not enough for me. I spent most of that afternoon doing the bowel prep and trying to get my house ready for my recovery. I was more stressed out than ever. I wish you all the best.

Re: work Before surgery day question

I worked the day before my surgery. I didn't eat anything all day... only liquids. I did the bowel prep after work at 4ish... and my surgery was the next day. I could not drink anything the night before starting at midnight. I did just fine. I was suppose to have teacher conferences the night of my bowel prep, but I couldn't do it... I was on the toilet a lot! I was really stressed out, but that's normal... you will be just fine.

I plan on working the day before, will take the dulcolax at 3 while at work, I know that wont work so fast, I get out at 5 and live 2 miles from work.

Re: work Before surgery day question

I worked the day before my surgery. I run a daycare out of my home and I didn't need to start the prep until noon. It wasn't a problem for me since it didn't really start to work until later that evening.

I had my mom come over just in case it became a problem, but it was fine.
