Just not feeling right !

My hyst was 10 yrs ago 2001. Few the past year I have just had that "off" feeling. I haven't been on HRT for several years now and was doing pretty well. Now I have light headedness , weight gain , red "flushed "face most of the time , night sweats , trouble sleeping , dry facial skin then breakouts all seem like back when I had a cycle and other symptoms. I have had a heart checkup up , all clear. Mild BP issue and on a low dose medication. At my last check up I told my PCP that I felt like crap. He did order blood work but don't think I got a hormone test like I should. it shows FSH and LH only. Anyway his answere was well you can go back on HRT if you want . No real ANSWERS! I now have an appt with and endo this week. ( which I self refered )
Any tips on how to describe to her what I feel is going on ? Anybody else have this so long after surgery ?? I am now 52 and wan to feel good again ! It seems my hormones are just at of whack here !
Thanks , Lynn

Re: Just not feeling right !

Hi Lynn, My guess would be that this would be around the normal "menopause" time. I'm wondering if your adrenal glands weren't working fairly well to produce just enough hormones for you to get by. I would think the adrenals are no different than anything else in our body...they just start to slow down!

I had all of the same symptoms you've described. I also started to experience "odd symptoms" when I hit 46. I'm now 53. My thyroid was checked and I had become hypothyroid. I also started working more intensely with my hormones. Changing the medications helped, but it didn't totally take the syptoms away. Interestingly, my mother started experiencing natural menopause in her mid to late 40's.

Your symptoms of breakouts are common when estrogen takes a back seat to testosterone. I think you described your symptoms exactly the way I would. One suggestion might be to add to your list what your mental state has felt like to you. I described it to my Dr. as not a true deep depression, but a disconnect in my life..like I had no interest in being a participant anymore.

I did learn that trying not to be emotional about my symptoms was important. Any of the Dr.s that I saw would instantly grab the Rx pad to write up the routine menopause cocktail of an AD and anti-anxiety med. I really wanted to make sure there was nothing more going on and to fix it instead of putting a bandaid on it.

Re: Just not feeling right !

Sounds exactly like I described to my dr this summer. I just felt like CRAP! interestingly even the BP issue was then discovered and also now I take a low dose pill. I was tested, had a thru the roof FSH and no estrogen, testosterone either. I was put on the pill which made me laugh, being 43, no uterus and NOW on the pill! ha ha! then we added a vivelle dot .025 dose and I felt "better" for a couple months. then the hot flashes went cuckoo! the dr. upped the dot to .075 and stopped the pill and I kept taking the androgel (testosterone) and in 2 days the flasshes stopped and I felt MUCH better. that is the current treatment plan. I am only 43!!! Way too early for menopause which is why it took them months to test for it. they just coudn't believe it. I was 42 when it started.
