Starting Lupron ~ any tips?

I'm starting lupron later this week to shrink my fibroids. Then I'll have DaVinci in January. Any advice? Tips?

Re: Starting Lupron ~ any tips?

I went through a full course of Lupron with little results. We were hoping to "reset" my system and avoid a hysterectomy. Unfortunately it didn't help and I am scheduled for a LAVH on Dec 14th. I wound up with migraines, joint pain, and nausea like I was pregnant. I hope things work out better for you. Keep me posted and let me know how it works out for you.

Buckle up. And have a sense of humor. Remember your friends love you even if they don't like you at times. Try to be self aware so you can regulate your emotions. Also dress in layers. Hot flashes can be entertaining if you make it so.

My advice? Have Popsicles at the ready. They got me through the hot flashes.

Re: Starting Lupron ~ any tips?

I found taking prometrium a progestrone hormone thru your dr but not synthetic relieved my symptoms for about 6 years. Also avoiding caffine at al costs. You might as your dr. I took 200mg every night. But that is a lot. You may not need that much or you not find it works for you. Was very good for me. Although this last week I did have a hysterectomy. I haven't needed any hrt yet and my dr said my ovalries were very small now. May help me transition.

Re: Starting Lupron ~ any tips?

I had my first shot 10/24/11. That's a little over 2 weeks ago. My doc put me on the birth control pill to counteract the side effects. So far, no migraines. YAY! I haven't had hot flashes yet, but my mood/personality has definitely been changed. I find myself just wanting to sit and do nothing, which is not at all like me. I snap easily. That part is frustrating. I have a 2 year old and I'm worried about what the change in my behavior is doing to him. I'm also more tired than normal which doesn't help matters. I'm not a coffee drinker, nor tea, coke... I guess that's a good thing because of the caffeine, but I'm so tired I feel like starting! I get heartburn a lot too. It's not bad, just annoying. I never get heartburn, I wasn't expecting that one! And acne. I feel like a teenager.
Bananabread - I take pregnenolone (my regular doc is a holistic md, and he put me on it a couple of years ago for pms), do you think that's similar to prometrium?
All in all, it's nothing I can't handle. I'll keep you posted on any changes. I hear that each shot makes things a little worse. 1 down, 2 to go!
Thanks everyone for your support!

I am all about holistic approach, but prometrium is definately more consistant doseing. It is not like birth control pills. Are you taking the pill and the progesterone? May be a bit much. As far as your two your old. Just be consistant, tell yourself before you speak to count to ten. Telling him in the way he/she understands mommy is grumpy and not feeling good and sorry if you can. They are smart. Model what you want them to do when they are grumpy. Its gonna get worse. Just be patient with yourself and ask for understanding from those around you. Strength be with you.

Pregnenolone converts to progesterone, so I'm not technically on progesterone, but it does help with progesterone levels. And I'm on the pill. I didn't think to mention the pregnenolone to my surgeon. I guess I really should.
I haven't snapped at my son too much. I try to walk away, do the dishes, etc. when I'm especially grumpy. That's not possible all the time, so counting to 10 is an excellent idea!
How are you feeling since your surgery?

Had a rough go with the meds. My body react very badly. Had to get off evrything and ride it out. Feeling better from a full nights sleep. Pain is less now but I hate being down. Not my style. I really did everything physical this summer to get it out of my system and be strong but I hate the couch. I'm alone all day, and I hate that too. Loved my shower last night. I feel better after a good soak. Hang in there. You can do it. =)
