...all about Estradiol

At my visit to the Dr's office today (for depo provera) I asked about what brand of hormone I will be placed on after the surgery.

The nurse told me that I will go home with a patch on, which will last about one week.

Then, I will get a prescription for pills, for Estradiol.
AKA: Estrace.

I would love to hear from others who are taking this specific medication.

This is a whole brand new arena for me.
My surgery is a little over 2 weeks away.

Thanks!

Re: ...all about Estradiol

Hi I'm taking 1mg per day after the last remaining sliver of my left ovary just wasn't pumping out enough of the good stuff. I'm 37 and Dr said I'll probably be taking these for a while. I started them about 5 weeks after my TAH, have been taking them for about 2 months and I feel SO MUCH BETTER!!!! As many here can tell you, not all hormones "work" for everyone, but I got lucky, I guess.
Hope that helps a bit...

Re: ...all about Estradiol

I'm not on Estrace now, but I took it for 17 years and it worked just fine for me. I was on 2mg. daily.

Re: ...all about Estradiol

I'm on the estradiol patch since 5 weeks post op. Works great. I started on Premarin and the side effects were awful. Good luck.

Re: ...all about Estradiol

I'm also on an estradiol patch (Vivelle Dot), since the day of my surgery. I'm 55 and I feel great! Two very helpful books that explain the role of estrogen in our body are: Natural Hormone Balance by Dr. Uzzi Reiss and Screaming to be Heard by Dr. Elizabeth Vliet.

Re: ...all about Estradiol

Just wanted to add a recommendation for another book. It's titled, "Outliving Your Ovaries" by Marina Johnson, M.D. It's a little newer material with some more updated information. I thought it was also informative.
