Re: Im Scared

Have you thought about getting a second opinion?

If you haven't already explored all of the alternatives and various procedures this website is a great place to learn about those as well. I think the section is entitled "hysterectomy alternatives and options" under Forums in the above links. I suspect there is something under "Information" too.

Try that & don't rush into a decision until you are ready.

Good luck.

Re: Im Scared

It's normal to have doubts. There are a few things to help you decide. Have you had a 2nd opinion? Was at least one of them a specialist in the problem you're having? How many options have you tried? If it's for endometriosis, have you looked around the site for info on that, since they talk about how surgery is not a cure? You are right to question, since unless it's cancer or an emergency, it can wait, but you can't undo a surgery. Maybe if you gave a little more info ladies with the same reason can tell you what they did instead, or how they decided. Ultimately it's up to you, but get enough opinions and research enough options so you can be sure and not have regrets. Don't have a hyst until you are really sure. Good luck with your decision, we're here for you whatever you decide.

Re: Im Scared

i feel for you! it is a big decision. i have spent the last ten years ill and in pain which has disrupted my work and home life to say the least. i was scared at first too, but then someone said a wonderful thing to me so i will pass it on. she said "you're lucky! i've always wanted one." that made me feel much better. for me it has become the only option b/c i can't live like this any longer and there is no question in my mind. when it is right for you, you will know.
all the best!

Re: Im Scared

Like some of the other ladies have said, it is important to look into alternatives to is permanent and cannot be undone, so you have to be absolutely sure it is what is right for you.

Can I ask why you are considering having a hysterectomy? Depending on your medical condition, I'm sure there are many alternatives that you can try (if you haven't already) before you commit to something so life changing and permanent.

I do want to wish you the best of luck in making this decision. It is the hardest one I have ever had to make. Just know we are all here for you and would love to help in any way we can.
