Anyone having TVH?

I have a golfball size fibroid my surgery is Nov 30th and I have a freind who just had the same surgery with the same Dr and she is doing GREAT! She feels and looks awesome. But i've been reading a lot of women here are having many different types of Hysterectomys. I was told and read the TVH is the least invasive and shorter recovery. Is this true or only a opinion? And BTW Does the "T" in TVH mean total hysterctomey? Because in my surgery the DR is going to try and save my ovaries. Is it called something else when they only take the Uterus? Thanks in advance

Re: Anyone having TVH?

T does mean total but total hysterectomy just means the entire uterus, including the cervix, and doesn't mean the ovaries at all. A BSO is an ovary removal. It's true a TVH doesn't have external incisions and that does help, but the LAVH and davinci hysts have pretty small incisions and probably similar recoveries. I did have a TVH and it was a pretty easy recovery, but everyone is a little different. The hysts that leave the cervix, like an LSH, might have an even shorter recovery. Best wishes, whichever type you end up having.

Re: Anyone having TVH?

I had a TVH July 20, so 13 weeks ago. It is an easier recovery in the sense that we don't have an external incision to heal. But it is still considered major surgery and lots of stuff gets done down there and it takes a while to heal. I am still healing and still having pain but it is slowly getting better. You will find that different people vary a lot in their recovery times. My big mistake was thinking that in a couple months I would be all past the surgery and everything would be wonderful. In reality it is a long-term fix and it takes some time to get there. I wish you the best :-)

Re: Anyone having TVH?

I am Having a vaginal hysterectomy October 28. I have a grapefruit size fibroid plus several other small ones. I am trying to absorb all the information I can on here. So that I will be prepared as best possible for whatever direction my healing takes. I think I was convinced because this type of surgery is less invasive, that it would be breeze. But I have to keep reminding myself it is major surgery. It is reassuring to know as we experience different stages of recovery that we can find someone on here to relate to. As well as get questions answered! I will for sure post on here how I am doing after my surgery. best wishes Blondie2000! I

Re: Anyone having TVH?

Well I am not sure what you call mine it is supposed to be a TVH and BSO but my surgeon said I will still have a small incision where my c-section scar is and she is going to try and remove everything vaginally. Then my Urologist is going to do a bladder sling when my hysterectomy is finished.

Re: Anyone having TVH?

Astrid, thank you so much for your positive post ! With so much negative feedback on here, it is difficult not to expect a negative experience. But you are a reminder that everyone heals differently and that it just might not be too bad. As the days get closer to my surgery I find myself getting more nervous. But I am ready to be on the other side- recovering. Thanks again!!!
