The eve before my surgery

And I'm cranky

Any last minute tips? Should I "shave" you know where? They didn't instruct me to do so.

Should I remove all nail/toe polish?

How did you manage to sleep? I was told that I could take a Xanax or Ativan and my doctor prescribed this to help me, but not sure if that's going to help or not.

I WANT TO CANCEL my surgery!!! OMG, I am so nervous.

Re: The eve before my surgery

Hang on, Sweetie!

No shaving (unless they told you to). They don't want razor burn or any open wounds that might get infected.

No need to remove nail polish - unless they told you to. I don't paint my finger nails, but I do my toe nails. I purposefully painted them before I went to the castle so they would look good. They did look good, but no one saw them because they gave me socks to put on as soon as I arrived and they stayed on till I left. Oh, well.

Is your appt early?

If you are looking for things to do, I'll start a list of things you can do while on the couch. My recovery has been so fast that I haven't even stated the holiday letter I planned to write or stamped and addressed those envelopes... But I did get the candy bags stuffed for Halloween!

Re: The eve before my surgery

Hi- Your dr should have given you instructions. I was told no shaving, if it needs to be done they will do it, I can wear nail/toe polish & deodorant. I already know I wont be able to sleep, my surgery is nov 2 and i am having difficulty already. I just try to nap and rest whenever I can. I wish you good luck for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery

Re: The eve before my surgery

Let me tell you that I have been where you are. You dont need to take the polish off your toes, you will more than likely have on socks. I am due to have my on Tuesday but this is after having in rescheduled from last Thursday. I did not sleep either I was very stressful and to find out they were not going to do it. But now I am ready, I know I may not sleep the night before but I am ready to get it over with. You are going to be just fine, just relax clear you mind. We are all with you in spirit. My prayers are with you.

Re: The eve before my surgery

Had mine Oct 18th. I was crazy nervous. My logical brain kept saying all was good and I was going to feel so much better.....but emotional brain was screaming - how are you going to make it thru it all. Well 10 days later I'm doing so much better. The pain is easier than the pain I'd been dealing with and at least I know the pain gets better each day.

Once we got to hospital and they got the iv in and I was sitting waiting what felt like forever my DH had them give me something to relax me....highly recommend! I remember about 4 minutes after that and not a thing again until I was in recovery.

I too painted all my nails. They took polish off 1 finger for oxygen monitor. Can't even imagine stubble after surgery so shaving would probably be a bad idea. Embrace the excuse to be hairy for the next month! LOL good luck and God bless!

Re: The eve before my surgery

I wouldn't shave, either, unless your dr. told you to. It increases your infection risk, and if they really need you shaved, they will do it in the OR or pre-op. I had an LSH and didn't need to be shaved.

I would advise against nail polish, but toe polish should be okay.

Best wishes!! For me, the waiting really was the hardest part!! Will be thinking of you!

Re: The eve before my surgery

Aleyska, I love the idea of being "hairy" for the next month, LOL It's getting cold out here so the hair should help keep me warm.

Thank you all so much! I didn't expect to get so many responses this quickly. You girls rock!

Bugati, they didn't tell me to shave. I remember them doing it for me when I was having babies and I wasn't too fond of that, so thought maybe if I gave myself a little once over it would make it easier. If it's not necessary, then that's one less thing to do. I do keep "her" kinda low anyway, LOL

MzMocha and Bedofroses, thanks also for your kind thoughts and words of inspiration.

I'll try to relax. Thinking of going to the pool at the gym to just float around and listen to some piped music. Will be sure to keep you guys updated on my progress. Trying to think that tomorrow this time I am way over the surgery and hopefully resting quietly.

Re: The eve before my surgery

I understand your nervousness! I was so freaked about my surgery that I still can't believe I actually went through with it. You will be fine. Just keep breathing deeply and remembering why you're doing this. Wishing you a safe surgery and smooth recovery.

Re: The eve before my surgery

Mariposita~
I am scheduled for tomarrow also and cranky does not even describe me right now! LOL!
I have had to do 2 days of bowel cleansing and 2 days of clear liquid diet........Not fun!
My Dr./Hospital told me to shave legs and pits 2 days before surgery.....nothing else. And no polish....not even clear....party poopers!
Sleep will come easy to me tonight because I am so exhausted due to lack of food. I go in at 530am and I am not a morning person anyway, so I will probably want to sleep while they are preping me! *giggle*
Here is a big hug for you and best wishes for an uneventful surgery and a quick recovery!!! {{{{HHHHHHHUUUUUUGGGGGGSSSSS}}}}
