How Long Does ERT take to work? Help

Hi all,
I havent been here since I was a week post-op. My recovery has been great physically. I had a davinci assisted TH/BSO along with a right hemicolectomy on Sept 23rd. By the 4th week I was walking 2 miles 4x a week. I still have abdominal muscle pain and am in PT for a hip problem which is strengthening my abs.

Here is the problem, no real menopausal symptoms until last week. Although in hindsight what I was attributing to anesthesia and major surgery may have been menopause. Now I have horrible hot flashes (15/day and 8/night. There are so intense sometimes I have to breathe thru them and feel nauseous. Anyhow, DR was waiting for BRCA genetic testing before putting me on hormones. Tests came back negative this week (relief) and he put me on .025 Climara patch two days ago. I am not getting any relief. When should I? and should I be taking something for bone loss as well or testosterone?

Thanks for your help

Re: How Long Does ERT take to work? Help

I felt better by 3 days but I was told to give it up to a month. You're on a very low dose. I'm on the same dose and do fine but for others, that can be too low. Something to keep in mind if it doesn't work enough. I don't think most women need testosterone and it can cause side effects but I know some ladies take it for low libido (and other things I'm sure) and say it helps. I thought the Climara would help with bone loss along with calcium and vit D. it's confusing to me, esp since that's such a low dose. I hope by now you are getting some relief. Hot flashes are no joke, and I don't know how you get sleep with that many at night. I slept through the night at 3 days and I was so excited! I do hope you get the same sort of results, soon.

It can take some time for your body to absorb the hormones and as you are still early in recovery your body is still recovering which can cause hormone fluctuations.

I will say that .025 is a very low dose and may not be enough to alleviate symptoms.
