Surgerical Menopause

I had a radical Hysterectomy 3 months ago due to having cancer. So far not any serious problems. I am having a hard time figure out what to do about hot flashes. I am 45 and I feel good except for the hot flashes a few doing the day and at night its worst and causing lack of sleep. I really don't know if taking a HRT is the answer. Cause I was on the birth control pill for so many years and I had PPMS and bloating. I don't have any of that now. (birth control has the estrogen and progestin in it) I actually like the way I feel now except for the flashes and alittle leg pain at times. But my mood is so much better. Does anyone have any suggestion either to take HRT or something natural? I have read so much about it not being good to have no estrogen in your body. Has anyone not taking anything at my age and didn't have problems later in life?

Re: Surgerical Menopause

Please don't judge HRT by your experience with bcp's. The estrogen and progestin in bcp's are not the same molecules as bioidentical HRTs and are not treated the same by the body. The bcp's tend to cause more side effects than bioidentical HRTs do.

That said, the decision about whether or not to use HRT is a very individual one, best made through discussions with your DR about your personal medical history and individual health risks.

If you decide not to use HRT, please at least work with your DR to ensure your continued bone and cardiac health.

Re: Surgerical Menopause

I would talk to my doc about it. I am only a few years older than you and am using HRT. It really helped with the hot flashes. And it is also helping with my bones. It is very individual about what to do.

Re: Surgerical Menopause

My oncologist advise was either HRT, antidepressiant,or try to just deal with it. My Gyn gave me Viivette-dot and after one day on it I had more hot flashes than I was having and I was very moody. I
