Hair removal or not?

Do you need to do a full hair removal down below before surgery?

Re: Hair removal or not?

If any hair removal is necessary, they will do it at the time of the surgery. I did no removal and they removed none.

Re: Hair removal or not?

It depends on your surgery type.
I knew I was to have a vertical incision from my belly button to my pubic area and so I was told to remove the top half of my pubic hair - or leave it to them to do on the day. I chose to do it myself.

Re: Hair removal or not?

I am having the da Vinci Robotic. My doc told me I might be a little more comfortable if I shaved the top half. Because they don't and the hair will pull with the strips.

Re: Hair removal or not?

My doc said don't shave right before surgery because it increases the risk of infection. Legs are fine, but not "the surgical field".

Re: Hair removal or not?

I was wondering the same thing about shaving. I don't shave in front, because I have problems with rashes developing. Just what I need is to be itchy there post-op!

Re: Hair removal or not?

As mentioned check with your Dr. I had the daVinci and was ot shaved by the surgical team. As mentioned many Drs don't want you to shave due to an increased risk of infection. If needed they will do it in the operating room.

Re: Hair removal or not?

i have problems with rashes as well; so if they shave anything it may not be a good thing as far as infections
