Re: Hyst sched for nov 16, scared :(

It is normal to be scared and anxious about surgery. It is hard to turn yourself over to a group of people like this. They will take very good care of you - they don't want anything to happen to you either. The doctors and nurses know you are nervous, and will help you through this. They are trained in anesthesiology, and know what they are doing.

You can talk to them during pre-op meeting and ask them to give you something for your nerves.

Re: Hyst sched for nov 16, scared :(

It is perfectly normal to have some anxiety facing surgery and I was no different. I had a dear friend take me for mine and she stayed with me until they wheeled me in and we spent those couple of hours before the surgery talking and laughing and just catching up. I remember the anesthesiologist coming in and saying "I am going to give you a little cocktail now" and my response was "I don't think it is a good idea to give me a cocktail on an empty stomach" and the next thing I knew I was waking up in recovery. There is a lot of great information and support on this site.

Re: Hyst sched for nov 16, scared :(

Hi, I like you was terrified of being put out. Its honestly very easy. You don't even know its happeing. They usually give you something beforehand thru your IV. It calms you. I am not scared of it anymore. Dont worry it is soooooo easy.

Re: Hyst sched for nov 16, scared :(

Dittos from me on being put under anesthesia. I was very afraid of it, having never had any kind of surgery before, except wisdom teeth removal, for which I was awake. Everyone assured me it would be fine, and deep down inside, I knew it would be too, but there is always that niggling little "what if . . . ".

In short, your feelings are normal. I think we all have worries and fears. This site made all the difference in the world to me, just talking to women who had been through it before me. You've come to the right place!

Re: Hyst sched for nov 16, scared :(

Hi Lpn,

It is normal to feel scared before surgery. I am scheduled on the 16th as well. I have a fibroid the size of a mid term pregnancy as well. I am nervous as well but I have faith that everything will be just fine. I have an 11 and a 16 y/o so am blessed. I already have what I need for the hospital and for the bowel prep including baby wipes and A&D ointment. LOL, I am also doing lots of stuff around the house that I will not be able to later. I am doing all that I can to keep my mind of of the surgery so I wont get too stressed. I am in constant pain but I refuse to let it get me down.

You will be just fine!!! This site has been a blessing to me. I'm sure it will be to you too. Good luck & God bless!!!

Re: Hyst sched for nov 16, scared :(

I was having surgery for the second time - I was your age when I did the first and for some reason I was so relaxed probably just knowing I would be away from work.:-) However, even thinking of that this time around I was still a bit nervous but on the day of the surgery my anestesist was really the one who made me feel so relaxed for the surgery. Of course so many were praying as well and we will be praying for you.

Relli I like your spirit, you are so positive - you certainly will be okay. Please take it easy as you also need to have some rest prior to surgery. I was doing the same so when I told my Doc that I was working right up to 2 days prior to surgery she advised against it - I was disobedient; I still worked right up. :-) I had only the weekend and did surgery the Monday. All will be well for both of you....God is in control!!
