TAH hospital stay ques

Is it realistic to think I might stay just two nights for a TAH? I am a planner and need to know. Doc said perhaps after 2 1/2 days??? I stayed 3 with a csection, but that was 15 years ago. With no complications, what is normal now?

Re: TAH hospital stay ques

It really depends on the area you live in. In Canada, the stay is at least 3 nights post-op. I could have gone home after 2 nights but my doctor insisted I stay for a third night. I didn't mind at all as I usually sleep like the dead wherever I am.

Re: TAH hospital stay ques

I'm scheduled for a TAH in December. My doctor told me 3-4 days in hospital after surgery.

Re: TAH hospital stay ques

I just had my TAH on the second and stayed for only two nights. Depends on how well the surgery goes and if there's any complications.

Mine is scheduled for 2:30 in the afternoon. I was told it's possible I could go home on Thursday, but most likely Friday - so 2 to 3 nights.

Re: TAH hospital stay ques

5 days at least for a TAH over here in NZ... which is hardly relevant to you!
But, since I live on my own, I think I needed 5 days.

Re: TAH hospital stay ques

My surgery was at 7:30am, and I was released the next day around 1:30 pm. I had a TAH with no complications and my Doc told me that there was nothing more they could do for me except bring me pains medication and she said I figure you can do that at home. I am 1 1/2 months post op and doing well. Good luck to you!

Re: TAH hospital stay ques

My insurance allowed 2 night stay for an SAH and I was ready to go home by that point. However, what I've noticed is a tremendous variation in release criteria. For me, it was bowel sounds. However, for many doctors/hospitals, it is a BM, which may take a few more days to achieve. My surgery went smoothly and I wasn't in a lot of pain, so there wasn't a reason to stay. However, everyone's body reacts in unpredictable ways, so you may or may not be ready to be released early.
