Re: TAH hospital stay ques

I have been told 5-7 days. I am in Australia. A family friend was home in 3 days. I think it really depends on your doctor.

Re: TAH hospital stay ques

Thanks all. I plan to call my insurance to check on what is covered. I have Leiden Factor V, a clotting disorder, so doc said I would stay longer and then he changed that at my preop visit and said 2 maybe 3 days because Coumadin would be back in system. Actually it takes 5-6 days for Coumadin. I am wondering if it is an insurance issue. I don't love hospitals but am terrified of getting clots after surgery. That, and the fact that my husband works nights makes me just want to stay admitted longer. I know that he will keep me if necessary, but should I express this before or just wait?

Looks a bit like that.

Those of us in the UK, Canada, NZ and Australia, with public health systems, seem to get the longer hospital stays.

Re: TAH hospital stay ques

I had my surgery on Monday afternoon and went home after lunch on Thursday. My doctor said I could stay another night, but I think you get moving better at home. Having said that I would only go home if I felt reasonable - I hope you get a bit of an opportunity to say how you feel.
Also don't forget to take into account how much help you have at home.

Mine told me 2 days but I live an hour from him so he said he may keep me 3 days to be safe.

Re: TAH hospital stay ques

Called insurance. I am actually covered for 6 days. So, I can just tell doc that I want to stay if I feel the need.
